I don't get those elctric swatter jobbys....the one like little tennis racquets, yes ? Okay, imagine you're a fly.buzz,buzz,buzz...then...someone hits you with a small ping pong bat type thing...splat, you're history, you are an ex fly. What difference does it make whether you get a few volts electricity at the same time. Someone please explain. Thank you. KBO

ok, techie answer... the wires are about 3mm apart, 1mm diameter, so the air rushes through. Therefore the fly doesn't get the clue given by a pressure wave approaching. As the "racket" is quite large, you don't have to be accurate. To actually kill a fly when it is flying requires a very fast strike, as the transfer of momentum is quite small, the fly having a very small mass, so a crush injury is unlikely. ( a different matter if you are simply squashing the fly against a hard surface) So a slow strike simply has to be roughly accurate and the spark does the rest. I'd also mention that the shock given by these swats is actually quite low, but it looks far worse, a lovely big spark and a satisfying "crack"... although my sub was quite keen to avoid a direct nipple strike *evil grin*

I'm even more of a pervert... I used my Magic Wand on my sore back and neck muscles both yesterday and today! I know, I know! It's incomprehensible, what WILL I sink to next?? Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (R. Frost)
