So i'm stretched out on the medical chair, latex gloves waving a needle at me, recalling Mistress' words of comfort...
"Don't worry, it won't hurt too much, well probably not" noting the gleeful smile on Her face...
Which was okay because She got to sit in the waiting room with a Reader's Digest while i had my teeth 'fixed' by someone's 12 year old son...well he wasn't obviously, but he certainly didn't look old enough to be wielding scalpels and needles anywhere near my mouth...i'd normally only ever trust Mistress with that...
Like coppers, dentists and doctors just seem to be getting younger, though i suspect that's just indicative of my progressing years...the 'afternoon tea' of my life
Anyways, so i'm stretched out, looking forward to a filling (which then turned into 2 fillings on review of the x-ray...joy) and a scale and polish when the dental nurse gives me a pair of rose-tinted goggles to wear...
Not been to the dentist for 12 years (excruciating root-canal killed the novelty value for me tbh...) but never had to wear goggles before, am still pondering the reason...
...to prevent flying tooth chips going in my eyes ? To prevent retinal burn from the overhead lamp ? Or as Mistress said
"Probably so he can take the piss out of you looing stupid in them..."
Either way, rose-tinted glasses were in no way going to enhance the experience of the four gum injections, drill, clamps, gum cutting and general agony that is dentistry
Still, bonus to discover just how averse to the 'tooth-puller' Mistress is, got the impression it made Her quite queasy...will be accompanying Her when it's Her turn for the chair no doubt...
...and of course offering all the comforting words that i can during the run-up... ![]()

Visiting the dentist is akin to taking the car to the garage.
For stone age dentists, patient fluroscopy. For Sweeney Todd dentists, a diabolic cover for the obvious blood sprays as they carry out their the macabre work.
Laser dentistry. Most likely for giving patients protection from infrared dental procedures using high powered infrared lasers. Probably during the procedure for the filling, the dentist used an infrared laser instead of a drill and anaesthetic for hard tissue removal. -- |
