Realistically, you want to be aiming a *lot* lower. I've been to a number of "first events", and only one even approached those numbers. You don't want to utterly bankrupt yourself before you even start.

ETA: Most don't even break even - only one I'm aware of made a profit, first time out.

Lots of events break even or even run at a profit, even first nights. I know Indulgence in Chester made a profit on its first night as did Nightshade and DV8 in Edinburgh.

Finding a venue is always the biggest problem. In comparison everything else to do with running a club is dead easy. There are a three things you have to bear in mind about venues: toilets, size and heating.

something to look into. Not sure a club function room is viable though, people would be 'outed' too easily, and then there's the degree of privacy. Would want the club steward walking in on a scene would we?

I used to be normal :-(?Thank god they cured me :-D

Hi

Many, many years ago, there was a play club night at York Dungeon. A second was planned, but the city centre was flooded, so it was cancelled. Not sure who arranged it or if the management is still the same, but you have to admit it's an 'atmospheric' option!!!

Jj

It was @ZakRLee who organised it. A New Years do, I think. Wonderfully atmospheric but fiendishly expensive to hire.

Finding a venue is always bloody difficult. Good luck.

There have been two events at the York Dungeon now, organised by the same team:) The second was planned, the dungeon flooded and it was postponed and took place some time later at christmas:) I remember both nights being amazing!( especially the amazing gourmet food....:))

BLOOD IS JUST AN ORNAMENT, THE REAL PAIN IS DEEP INSIDE.

You may want to consider the option I used when I ran a club in Hull, a cheap hotel, the type of one that building contractors and similar use, so are busy during the week, but dead at weekends. Some of the owners are very broad-minded and will make the venue exclusive to you. It gets around all sorts of problems, like if people want to have sex, they don't go in the toilets, they go back to their bedrooms!!

My main problem was maintaining numbers, particularly when we had an outbreak of 'politics' and one group decided they couldn't be at the event at the same time as the 'other' group. The busines model had worked for the hotel owner previously in that they could guarantee the hotel would be close to full at the weekend, so they didn't care that the bar takings were low, but when the numbers dropped, they didn't fill their rooms AND didn't get the bar takings, so it was no longer economically viable for them. There's a bigger crowd in York, and prepared to commute to York, so you stand a better chance.

Just had a look at this link. The calculations (informed guesses) I did in my head mean it would run at a big loss, before trying to calculate electricity etc.

Shame

We're here for a good time, not a long time.

i'm not so convinced it would run at a loss. You'd have sole use of the property and so could run 3 or 4 events per month, on different days and at different times, enough people at the right price and it's a winner. E.G. Lets say the running costs are £1200 per month, thats 120 kinksters at £10 over 3 or 4 events.
