"We're in Birmingham, it's Saturday March 27, and it's time to wish a Happy First Birthday to Heresy 'n' Heelz. The Asylum club is the new venue for HnH, recently relocated from Derby to the thriving metropolis that is Brum. The venue is well located, being close to the city centre but in a non-residential area, which means plenty of safe, free parking and no problem strolling around in clubbing attire

Friendly door people and security are always a good start to the evening and HnH has staff that are both friendly and helpful throughout the venue. Cloakroom people even let my companion pay on collection for her coat because she didn't have a pound on her. Try finding that degree of helpfulness in central London.

The Details. A full evening's stage entertainment was presided over by compère extraordinaire Mat Fraser and included fashion from Midlands-based Addixxtion Designs presenting corsets and other Victorian-inspired styles. Performances I caught included the flamboyant Marnie Scarlet, the fiery, cutting-edge Natsumi Scarlett from Amsterdam and the always excellent Vivid Angel. Adding to the array of international names who kept the night buzzing was a crowd pleasing performance by Miss Pink & Fluffy, Heresy 'n' Heelz' resident burlesque artist and wife of promoter Jules Evans.

Following the stage entertainment came DJ sets from TG founders Allen TG and David TG (possibly not the surnames on their birth certificates). Both delivered good, solid, floor-filling sets. TG being the special guests for this event had somewhat increased my anticipation of the night and I was not disappointed. A very diverse and happy crowd — one of the friendliest I've encountered anywhere — sported many striking costumes and some that were quite exceptional.

I would also like to mention that the bar prices at the Asylum have to be the cheapest I have ever paid in a nightclub, and the bar staff among the friendliest. All in all a fun, easygoing, very friendly, inclusive and excellently run event."
