Receiving an award comes with a health warning? (4)

Having witnessed first hand, the effect that receiving an award can have this weekend, I believe they should come with a health warning!

We tend to assume don't we that, professional organisations and doctors in particular know what they are doing. Unfortunately they are just human beings like us, and although well intentioned they make mistakes too.

Humans just love to put labels on things, religion is the best example. Look at the rivalry and confusion between all the different labels. Jew, Catholic, Baptist, Muslim they all believe they have the right label. They have killed thousands and millions of innocent people over the centuries for what?

Therefore when an invitation from an organisation advertised as being inclusive is received offering a prize, the expectation would naturally be to trust in this and accept the prize.

Expectation and reality are two different things.

The reality is that you cant assume that any publicised standard has been properly researched organised or managed.

I have witnessed first hand, a publicised inclusive event this weekend, which although may have been well intentioned was ill researched, prepared or managed.

For instance, if I sent invitations for a BBQ which stated it was Vegan friendly, I would expect to cater for the needs and understand the needs of vegans. I wouldn't serve them beefburgers!

More worrying I witnessed what I thought was an act of exclusion, which unfortunately I cannot share, just in case I got it wrong. However it was not connected directly with the event and I want to make that clear.

My view on this world is that we should share it in peace and harmony, we should strive to understand each others point of view and do away completely with labels. If we did that we would not be having a discussion on inclusion.

If you're referring to Dr. Tuppy Owens, her PhD is an honorary one in recognition of her work on human sexuality, I believe. She's not a doctor in the medical sense, so far as I'm aware, though she is a trained sex therapist with a proper diploma. Unless some neerdowell has been messing around with her wikipedia page or sommat.

Enough said.

Yes because it about labels, and about professionals in general, not one in particular.
