I personally dont think it is right or appropriate. The amount of nepotism in our work place has gone ridiculous, and i dont think it lends itself to good harmonious work relations.Any comments on this subject?

Yes, Nepotism relates to giving advantages to relatives and can be family firms or corparations, there isn't to much of an issue with it, even labour buy into political dynasties, mandelhson and Oona King for eample. Cronyism, giving your mates an advantage at work is wide spread, quite often wrong but little you can do about it. |

Years ago, I applied for an interdepartmental role where my father was already a senior manager. I had to pass the board and exams with absolute flying colours before I got the job but even then, I had to wait for a post on opposing shifts to him so there was no perceived favouritism. Due to staff illness, we ended up working together a few times and by golly, it was great. Zinging and hugely productive because we both knew how the other worked. Totally professional and complementary. Because of what I do now for a living, I often get calls to join up with people I've worked with before because we know we are compatible and not for favouritism. Ineptitude should never be rewarded though! The nice lady with the whip. Edited 1 Apr 10, 11:11 PM by Caracal |

My dad and my sister both work in the same shop, on the same department. It means that she's not really grown up or matured, she's had her hand held the entire way. She doesn't have to think for herself because dad does everything for her at work. Whereas I got my first job in a pub at 15 (she was 17 when she got her job, after my dad "had a word") and worked my way to where I am now. Makes me so cross! "Nothing saves anyone's life, Sir.
