Just repeating the consensus here but for different people it seems to be different things. I have known it to be thin canes for some, singapore canes for others, or tawses and single tailed whips... For using them on others, curtain wire (or electrical cord) seems one of the more severe stingy ones, whilst for thuddy pain, a very heavy rubber tawse tends to elicit most screams.
My personal favourites are still asps, nightsticks and rubber truncheons though | ||

My Dom has an aluminium paddle the exact shape and size of a cricket bat that he had made - nasty. Also, a hazel wand, which has no give in it at all. The carbon cane is really painful and the rubber tawse is horrid. That pretty much covers it! But then I always used to scoff at floggers, saying they were only for sensation play, so my Dom bought a rubber flogger to teach me otherwise. As many have said, a good Dom can make just about anything hurt. Except perhaps feathers. Now where do I go about ordering a cane made of feathers? Oh wait, that would be a feather duster. Well Ishmeal Its very nice of you to give me a Q. After all it is the slipper & the practice of Slipperings that started the whole of my fetish life off many moons ago. I remember with fondness the Demon Whacker Elephant Hide Slipper owned bt Dennis the Menaces Granny. It wasn't much different to my own Grandmothers Slipper though the latter was never really used on me. Obviously I have had this interest all my life and over the years I have had a few yahoo groups and blogs dedicated to the practice.
