According to Melon Farmers certain cartoons will become illegal on April 6th http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk/gca.htm#Dangerous_... How the heck can a cartoon character have an age?? More relevant to us, how long before Dangerous Pictures Act is extended?

Horse, door, bolted. Only 87 (Eighty Seven!) people or organisations responded to the government consultation on this proposal. The summary response document is here: http://www.justice.gov.uk/docs/consultation-non-... This document includes a list the 87 people and groups who responded (I am #30 - Mr R by email). Whilst it's not a BDSM issue, it could have been hoped that more people on IC would have responded as we are (hopefully) generally in favour of sexual freedom where no non-consenting person is harmed. However, I suspect that after the CJIA efforts, people were a bit campaigned-out. Upshot is: any joke images you have of Bart & Lisa, or the Scooby Doo characters (all 16, except Shaggy - 17), could land you up before the beak. This new law was originally intended to catch those with photo-realistic images - but the scope was rapidly extended by those with a wider anti-porn agenda to incorporate all drawn and computer-generated images. At some stages, if the net keeps tightening, it'll be all porn that becomes illegal. If you're a fan of the cartoon stuff - TrueCrypt is your friend. ***Signature area for sale. Whilst some anime stuff is not to my taste, I do think this is utterly ridiculous. We are on the path to thought police.

The new law was originally spun in the press as being intended to catch those with photo-realistic images, but it was never actually restricted to them - it always included all drawn images. (Also, as I recall the only thing that was actually legal anyway was possession of such photo-realistic images. Creating them, distributing them, and obtaining them were all already illegal - and viewing images online still counted as "creating" them for the purposes of this law.)
They can't. The law states that if the "predominant impression" is that the character is under 18, then the image is illegal. So drawings of youngish women with small breasts will be illegal. Perhaps even all women with small breasts.

This relates to child pornography, not BDSM.

We all realise that. Subject is that the CJIA might well be extended to include cartoons. Recent legislation has had a ratchet effect with ever tightening censorship - in fact the only loosening I can think of was around R18 videos, and that was down to a court ruling opposed by the Home Office.

Do you think pictures/videos of pre-teens having sex should be illegal? Do you think pictures/videos of people who act and look pre-teen, but aren't, having sex should be illegal? Do you think pictures/videos of cartoon characters who act and look pre-teen, but aren't, having sex should be illegal? Tricky.

Surely the argument is that material that feeds a paedophilic sexual desire, might lead to people wanting real children. I agree with you on the overall shifting of the argument, and I don't know whether there is evidence to suggest that or not, but the EP law was brought in on the basis of 'leads to real sex crime', despite the overwhelmingly lacklustre evidence.

So your point is that with no research into the affects that cartoon paedophillic imagery has .. that everyone is just spouting hot air, depending on which side of the issue it is that affects them. |
