Having and wanting no children, and currently being single, I've decided to have the snip ![]()
I'm not worried about the pain but on the NHS how long is the average wait? If too long I'll go private, think I'm right in saying it's about 500?

Can't say how long the wait it, I suppose it depends on where you are too. The pain isn't so bad and you'll be up and running within a few days. It is fairly straightforward but *tip from the other half* ensure they wait until the anesthetic is WORKING because if they make the incision when it's not quite there it HURTS ... By the way, spunk smells, looks and tastes no different afterwards (in case you wanted to know) so nobody will know except you. Bear in mind it's not 100% garantueed to work as your tubes can re-attach and you will need a good few wanks to get the remaining spermies out of your system before it's safe to have sex without a condom (if you're clear of STDs). “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act” - George Orwell

dunno, but as a single bloke, you're in for a long wait on NHS ... you're not as much of a priority as someone with 15 kids Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it

Rest assured I'll make bloody sure the anesthetic is functioning... I don't pay my taxes for CBT. God no!

You may find your GP does them. Lots of surgeries do the vasectomy clinics now, usually once a month. Sit in a waiting room, reading last months chat/womans weekly, or partaking in idle chit chat with fellow 'snippers'. Your name is called, taken to a room and lie down, nice bit of local anaesthetic via syringe and needle....snip snip..all done.....go and have a nice cup of tea. Wear very loose lower clothing though.

I'm not concerned at all about the pain - so be it!
It's the possible wait I'm worried about - 6 weeks? 12 weeks? 12 months?! I'll go private if so

I had it done 10 years ago and had to wait about a year to get it done. I believe the NHS are stricter about who they let have it now. I still use contraception as I don't 100% trust it and after reading the post below I now know I'm not just being paranoid.

I suspect I'm going to be asked to "Have a think about it and come back later." Right, okayyy... Actually I've been thinking about it for a long long time, so I think it'll just be easier and a whole lot quicker to go private.

My sisters husband had it done on the NHS, via his local doctors surgery, he didn't have a long wait.
