BDSM Fundamentalism (88)

This post is on the Other BDSM web board.

Many people dip in and out of bdsm,to some it is a lifestyle,to others a general framework. To what extent do we regard the Fundamentalist, one who quotes the BDSM Scriptures and dresses up like a Christmas tree, for example, as comical and perhaps being very needy for those props for fulfilment? Or is this committing Heresy against the High and Mighty of The Religion, and subject to the attentions of the Thought Police.....? Will I lose my Domly Licence for such views?

Practise senseless acts of beauty.

I'm currently going through a phase where a lot of the trappings and terminology surrounding D/s feel quite alien and unwanted, even whilst still knowing I'm as submissive and kinky as I ever was within relationships.

Quite why this has happened, I don't know - whether it will ever change I am also unsure of.

That said, I still firmly believe that those who enjoy such things, who like the heavy protocol and terminology and collaring ceremonies and the like are perfectly entitled to do so without having to encounter ridicule or mockery, especially on this website of all places. As long as people aren't forcing their own ways of doing things on non-consenting others (and that goes both ways), people should be free to get on with conducting their lives and their relationships in whatever ways they see fit.

And if that's not something that works for you, if it's not the way you choose - well, disagreement's great, variety's wonderful, discussion and learning from each other is what this website's for, surely.

But keep the mockery off the boards, eh?

I spent the best part of a decade very heavily involved in the scene, or rather the variously overlapping scenes that are referred to as one entitiy. The main reason I'm not in a massive hurry to get back into it was an increase in people taking it, and themselves, way to seriously.

People can do as they choose. I've never even called anyone master because it sounds stupid but that doesn't mean the reality of how I am isn't actually pretty much as fundamentally submissive as you can get. In some ways putting on a costume and going out to play is BDSM -lite and committing to and marrying someone for life on the basis you'll obey them but otherwise living an outwardly vanilla appearing life is fundamentalist.

Fundamentalism as a word is used in a derisory way so I suppose I would tend to avoid it.

That's because usually they're no fun and they're mentalists, of course its an insult ;)

The first rule of Brat Club, we don't talk about Brat Club...

Horses for courses.

Some people get off on the whole rigmarole stuff. Some people are more freestyle. Some people take themselves way too seriously and deserve to have the piss taken. Some people are sincere but think this is 'the way'. Some people are gits.

If people are into it then good luck to them if they enjoy it and don't take it too seriously.

Horny rope bottoms make it better.

Is this what they call a loaded question?

As I type I reach out my hand, so as you read, you are then touched.

No more chapters or verses required than from John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, 1647 – 1680:

Regime De Vivre

I rise at eleven, I dine about two,

I get drunk before seven; and the next thing I do,

I send for my whore, when for fear of a clap,

I spend in her hand, and I spew in her lap.

Then we quarrel and scold, 'til I fall fast asleep,

When the bitch, growing bold, to my pocket does creep;

Then slyly she leaves me and, to revenge the affront,

At once she bereaves me of money and cunt.

If by chance then I wake, hot-headed and drunk,

What a coil do I make for the loss of my punk.

I storm and I roar, and I fall in a rage,

And missing my whore, I bugger my page.

Then, crop-sick all morning, I rail at my men,

And in bed I lie yawning 'till eleven again.

Just another day at the IC Dom/mes office, no?

as the freshest of newbies i think there are a lot of folk that are way too serious and take the bdsm lifestyle to a point where it stops being 'fun'

less than 2 months ago i discovered the joys of leather on skin and i LOVE the feel of restraints and my collar and the sting of flogs and whips.

but i do not understand the need for the strightjacketing approach of many to follow strict codes of practice and it sometimes seems, for a bouch of perverts, many are a little anal.

i do not feel the need to call every dom/me i see Sir or Madam nor to use upper/lower case letters everywhere (as can be seen) to fulfil someone else's etiquate rules.

i like calling my Demon, Sir, even if he still laughs when i do, or calls me 'good girl' depending on his mood (he does not do the 'strict thing' either.

i like bdsm for the bdsm, restraints, pain, bondage and sexual impact that is not all in/out repeat. if i want to be held in by rules i will go work in a office 9-5 and marry an accountant (no offence to accountants, my Demon was almost one once).
