London (Summer) Jamming Munch? (26)

This post is on the South West London (SW) topics page and the BDSM Events web board.

This is just me putting out feelers to see if there would be any interest. I put a similar question up in the off-topic weblog in case this idea isn't technically allowed in the BDSM Events board since its just an idea at this stage.

Anybody up for the idea of a summer munch where we can bring instruments and have a jamming session as well as meeting other kinky folk? I was thinking maybe somewhere like Hyde Park.

I have met lots of guitarists within London and the first thing we always say is "ah we'll have to have a jamming session" some time soon. So, I'm trying to see if it'd work as a concept. It goes without saying that non-musicians would be welcome too, and if the weather is right maybe a picnic in the park would work.

If anyone has a better idea in terms of locations or similar type of event please share. :-)

This sounds fun! You wouldn't want me anywhere near a guitar but I'd be up for picnics and general summery lounging around.

Pick a place and set a date. They will come, but they won't be the people who post to say they are interested. They will be people you have never heard of.

you're beginning to sound like a broken record. maybe its this for recurring munch, but for a one off it would be stupid not to ask if there's interest before setting a date.

It sounds like a great idea, but I'd be so much more enthusiastic about something like this if I played something that was easier to transport. As it is, being a drummer without a car is spectacularly inconvenient.

Hmm... interesting replies so far. Not sure if you are expressing a view either way about the actual concept of a jamming session munch.

I've never organised a munch before and I just wanted to know if this idea would float anyone's boat first. Can you imagine how stupid, deflated and humiliated (in a bad way) I'd feel if I actually had gone to the trouble of arranging an event only for nobody to show up, or to be told that the idea is rubbish?

If this shouldn't be in the events board because a date and time hasn't been arranged, then I'll not object to Admin moving/deleting it. There is a similar blog on off-topic but nobody has responded to that yet.

If the idea of a big summer event is a bit daunting, what about just a munch to meet musicians in the local area, and maybe get to know each other and set up a band?

I just thought the summer picnic/jamming in the park idea would have worked nicely as I have met and played guitar with others at outdoor parties and its a great icebreaker to be able to share some chords and have a bit of a party atmosphere going. :)

How many events do you think get started after someone does a post seeing if others are interested? People go to events which they know are running. as any event organiser will tell you there are always people who post and memo to say they will come, yet never show up. For December's Edinburgh munch 8 new people said they would come, 1 showed up.

When people start a new event it isn't recurring. It is a one off. Enough people may turn up to make it worthwhile continuing, but you won't know until it happens. Was Whips in the Park intended to be a recurring event? Someone said I will be here at this time and this is how you recognise me, people turned up. What happened to the great IC Munch or the Picnic Munch or the Jewish Munch? Nothing, because no one got off their arse and did something.

I may sound like a broken record but someone else may read this thread and realise someone has to do it.

Is jamming in the park something that happens? I'd be thoroughly pissed off if I went for a nice day out in the park and had to put up with others "jamming".

Why not find a venue near a park or a nice outdoor pub so that you could jam a bit indoors where you're not disturbing other good folk and then have a post jam drink. I'd be interested if that were the case but I wouldn't be keen to force my music on other daytrippers!

I completely respect what you are saying but I've not seen ANY suggestions like this before so don't know if its something that would work without seeing what the rest of IC thinks first.

I've only been on the scene for just shy of two years and am trying to overcome my shyness by getting off my arse and organising something. I just don't want to organise something if there is little to no interest.

Are you saying the idea could work or are just telling me off for not having the venue date and time booked already? Am confused and beginning to regret starting this thread.

Thanks :)

This is EXACTLY why I'm asking. If better suggestions - such as the one you made are put forward then I'll have an idea of what to work with.

I see what you mean about it potentially infringing on other people's enjoyment of the park.

Again... just trying out an idea here.

Edited to add

ok let's take Mistress_Susannah's suggestion forward.

Who would be up for that idea? I like the sound of it, and yes it would probably work far better than my initial idea.

Any takers?
