Yesterday I fractured my ankle and I'm supposed to be flying to Amsterdam next Sunday. ![]()
I am on crutches, but boy, do they hurt your hands and shoulders! (I'm not skinny so there is a lot of weight on them).
Does anyone have ANY useful tips to help me cope with all this and actually manage to get there??

keep practicing! but you can gad out the handles if they are hurting. and rest whenever you need to. also for the plane, you can pay for 1st come or disability (i cant remember the actual names) any way you can get wheelchaired on to the plane is necessary, or get on first before the crowds of people. hope that made sense. x Child of Chaos.

No tips for crutches, but first of all, have they cleared you to fly (permission from your doctor, and the airline agreeing?). The airline might ask you for a Form MedF1 (Medical information Form) if there is any query. You might ask if they can seat you somewhere (not an Emergency Exit row) they have previously found advisable - if you have a bulky cast they might suggest you buy an extra seat for more room!. If you are cleared to fly, don't forget to ask in advance for help at both airports (destination and arrival), both in and out-bound legs.

You could always go for a wheelchair? Recent experience tells me flight companies can cope, so long as you warn them in advance. Good luck, I know how much a busted ankle can hurt! Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you?

Oh no! Thats a real bummer.
Umm...tips? Umm..well, from experience, fishnets over a plaster cast don't actually look TOO bad. Especially for the Dam! Cor, I'm really envious, even with a plastercast! Just make sure everyone looks after you. Have a fab time petal. X

First bit of advice is to tie sponges over the handles and cover them in something like black socks to make them look better and still be soft (i have broken my knees, feet etc too many times to mention lol!)
My last experience with crutches was at the Download Festival and the second piece of advice comes from that experience....take full advantage of what the Amsterdam coffee shops have to offer Have a great time ok?? hugs gabrielle

Sticking plaster on the handles will stop the pressure on the palms, and make it more bearable to walk on them. |
