The Maitresse Club ran from Sept 1983 to June 1986, every Monday night at a club named Stallions in Falconberg Court close to Centrepoint. I was very sad to see that the venue no longer exists (demolished recently to make way for the tube express route), and I wonder if there are many on IC that used to attend - I was just too late! I'd also be fascinated to correspond with the people that ran Maitresse. I'm tired of being defined by organising events. Edited Sat 13 Mar 10, 8:07 PM by Ishmael

Ishmael-Are you sure the dates quoted are correct?
If they are right, did they practice time travel?
It must have been wonderful to have experienced some real Victorian strict discipline!
Go on,let us all down by saying, you've got the dates mixed up.

Ishmael, I have asked my husband - who was around back in the day - and he says that he remembers two Italian women running it. He also says that he thinks that Der Putsch might have started in in '84 rather than '83. He also remembers going to Atomage in Maida Vale at around the same time. And Fetish Fetish.

Thank you for your reply.
That's interesting; I'd love to know more
I went to Atomage in 86 (it may have been the last one); Fetish Fetish was 87 (I think) held at The Goat in Boots, and I don't think it lasted long.

I couldn't comment on dates but many years ago as I was just feelimg my way towards the scene some one told me about Maitresse which had already closed. Apparently couples used to ask for a certain record to be played (which had references to BDSM) and the floor would clear. Then the couple would play watched by everyone else. One night someone identified themself to the organiser as a senior policeman and said if he heard of this happening again he would arrange for him to be prosecuted. So that put a stop to that and the club folded. I should make clear I don't know this to be true, I am simply repeating a story told to me. In the light of recent events Ishmael, sadly times haven't changed a great deal.

Actually, the bad guys in the case of Burns Night were Bouncing Bowly and Youngs Brewery; Islington Council and the police said they were fine with fet events. I'm tired of being defined by organising events.

And I do seem to remember something of that kind being described to me; thank you for helping confirm it. Best of all would be an introduction to the people that ran Maitresse.
