My car insurance expires in 10 days time and I thought the quote I got from my insurance company I've used for years exhorbitant
Decided to see what confused.com was like
Got (and accepted) a quote from another insurer at 62% of my renewal premium including other benefits such as RAC membership
Should have done this years ago

Did same and got cheaper quote from confussed, still using with my present insurer! Seems that when I rang my insurer direct they may have increased their quote as I was an existing customer. From this time forward, you will service us

I am due to renew my car insurance and I have found that I do have to do a lot of 'footwork' to get a cheaper quote. One year my existing provider qouted me £160 more than the previous year. I done some searching and found a quote from then online £60 cheaper. I then called them and said I had a quote £60 cheaper than their one and could they match it. After being on hold they came back and said no. I then told them that the quote I had was from themselves and online, they were really puzzled. I moved to another provider that gave me a quote that was cheaper than my previous years quote. By the way confused can only get me a quote that it £169 more than my current policy cost, confused, I am. There is a fine line between sanity and insanity. I have a foot firmly planted either side of that line

If you want to stick with the same insurers (sometimes familiarity is good as you really know what you are getting and you don't have to mess about chaning your D/D details with the bank) it is worth getting the lowest quote then going back to your old insurers and telling them the quote. You will be amazed how many will then give you that same deal to keep you as a customer. They make millions by people not shopping around so are often quite happy to drop their original quote to suit you. It is annoying though but they all do it at one point or another.

Years ago my bank got me a quote for home insurance which was under half the price of my existing one BUT it was the same insurance company and the same cover. When I phoned the insurance company to tell them I was cancelling they asked me why. I told them and they confirmed that Lloyds Bank had a block "standard" policy which was cheaper than dealing direct with them ^Thunder^ Edited 12 Mar 10, 8:57 AM by x_Thunder_x

it's called "business" a simple principle in pricing is to decide your cheapest price to still make money, after all that is what business is about, then find out how much more the customer is willing to pay and charge that. The difference is then pure profit. After all, if your employer would pay you double to stay working, would you say "oh no, I'm happy to work for half" ?
be a switch, double your fun

When the first question they ask you on ringing to discuss your renewal is Oh is it the price? then I think they know that they are overcharging. the reduction was over 50% of the original quote. thats rip off. |
