Nothing to do with skin problems, thank goodness. Instead I was wondering what book, or if you cannot manage a book, an article or a poem, that people are currently reading now. Whether this is something you hate or want to recommend, it is amazing what can come out...

Christopher Brookmyre: A Snowball in Hell It's funny. The lead villain is written to be disturbingly sympathetic. The closet's cosy and all, but outside there's room to move.

The Time Traveller's Wife. Was a Christmas gift and not something i'd normally pick for myself as it's a bit too...well, mainstream, i guess...but it's been pretty good so far. Haven't gotten to the 'Henry on Henry' action yet. "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." - Abraham Lincoln

The Time Traveller's Wife is one of the best books I have ever read. I have just read the series of Inspector Roy Grace novels by Peter James - they are outstanding crime thrillers. And have just read the first, and am now on the second, of the Matthew Shardlake novels by C J Sansom - historical thrillers, not normally an area which appeals to me, but these are well executed. And anyway, how can you say "which BOOK (singular) are you reading now?"? I always have three or four on the go, plus dipping into various poetry anthologies or essays.
Anyone get the idea I enjoy reading? English "It may be that your sole purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others" - Anon

Just re-read "Perfume: - The Story of a Murderer" - Patrick Süsskind. Magnificent in it's richness and baseness. That sent me scuttling for my reference shelves and a meander through "Perfumes, the A-Z Guide" by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez. An authoritative analysis of around 1,500 fragrances past and present, with essays on history, appreciation and context. "He took a single sip of her pain and found it exquisite"

I liked the first half... after that it got, well, you'll see. I nearly stopped at several points, and only kept going because I was in a book group.

The 19th Wife Not sure whether I would recommend it or not yet, since I am less than a quarter into it. So far I am a bit concerned it is so busy trying blackwash the polygamist sect of the Mormon church that the story pivots around, that it's 'faction' standpoint is being stretched to incredulity... I am currently reading, in no particular order; 'Happy Odyssey' the memoirs of Lieutenant-General Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart V.C. K.B.E. C.B. C.M.G. D.S.O. 'It's Only A Movie' the memoirs of Mark Kermode. I'm not sure if he has any decorations but he does have a very large quiff and the ability to reference 'The Exorcist' on every sodding page. 'Stalin's Nemesis, The Exile and Murder of Leon Trotsky' by Bertrand M. Patenaude which is teaching me a lot about the Mexican art scene of the 1930s and how much red hot sex action left wing revolutionaries used to get. 'The Horror Of High Ridge' Julius Goodman's Choose Your Own Adventure Book which is once again teaching me that being stuck in a town full of ghostly cowboys and Indians is shit your pants scary. Supposing I was to ask you, as a stranger going to the west, to seek for that which was lost... what would you say then?

Good books and unless you supply me with ten of your English pounds I will be forced to memo you the ending. Supposing I was to ask you, as a stranger going to the west, to seek for that which was lost... what would you say then?

However many groats you demand Master Kroenen, methinks I will have made a completion of said parchments prior to the next occasion on which I will have indulged in this particular channel of the King's web of information which he disseminates so gloriously from his eminent position in his monarchial residences. So, a pox on your idle threats Sirrah! English
