For this radical new interpretation of Stravinsky's ballet, the Ballet Boyz (Royal Ballet School) recruited a diverse tribe of dancers - from street dancers, to ballroom enthusiasts and champion pole dancers. A contemporary SM/fetish Darker version of "The Rite of Spring", in London Dec.2009. You can watch it (all performance) in 3 videos on my YouTube Channel's Play List. Click 'Play-All-Videos to see the show without interruptions. < http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=F8A362A6... > ___________________________________________________ ________ There are some radical (fantastic) changes in this SM/Dark version of the story of The Rite of Spring: First the Warriors meet and engage each other (Dance of the Adolescents), Fallow by the Elders that while gathering with the Queen (in this version this is a Matriarchal tribe), are reminded by the Sirens that a sacrifice of a Virgin to the Goddess of Spring is due (Dance of the Elders). Then the Sirens do the Dance of Fertility and the Queen returns with (in this version) four male-virgin-slaves. The Sirens provoke them (the virgin slaves know that one of them is going to die but they don't know who). The tribe (Warriors e Sirens) gather to prepare for (the Dance of the Rite) the selection and get exited. The four slaves enter again with the Queen and are incite by the tribe (and the public get involve too …). Finally the male-Virgin-slaves ready to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the tribe, offer themselves to be put to death. The tribe overpower them and the Queen leaves the slaves to their fate (Dance of the Virgins). Instead of one female virgin dancing to death (as in the original tribal story), in this version all four male-Virgin-slaves are ready to die, and an exited sexually driven tribe push them around. The male Virgins submit and throw themselves to the tribe, until one is chosen to die. That. Was. AMAZING. Absolutely spectacular. I can't remember the last time I got so emotionally engaged with video of a performance. I'm not familiar with the storyline and deliberately didn't read the summary above, before watching, so I could try and make my own sense of what was happening and then match it up with the plot, later. I loved that they put the audience around the diameter of the stage area, barred off with poles. The ballroom dancers sweeping in looked incredible - although I shamefacedly admit to thinking, 'Blimey! She's got HUGE norks! You don't see that in many ballet productions!' The poledancing was just mind-blowing - I'd have LOVED to have seen this production live, but the shots from above probably looked even better than an audience-perspective, for this section. In the finale, when the slaves were left to the mercies of the Warriors, and the Matriarch walked away -despite being alone in the room at 7am, drinking my cup of tea- I uttered an involuntary 'NOOooooooo!!!!!' out loud. I almost couldn't watch as the slaves got taunted; it reminded me of walking down the main club streets of Brighton with my little goth boi friends, at club chucking out time. I winced when one of the slaves got a good kicking, and to my shame I also squeaked 'Oh my GOD! He's BLEEDING!' when the blood appeared. As the last moments ended and the screen faded black, I realised I'd been holding my breath... Stunning. Absolutely. Stunning. "WHORE!!" | |

We saw this on TV some weeks/months ago - fabulous! I really loved the demure lady from the dancing club turning into a dommely double of Diana Rigg! We thought the resultant performance was amazing. The state has no business in the bedrooms of the nation - Pierre Trudeau | |

You are wonderful my dear! This contemporary version of the Rite of Spring is intensely and emotionally engaging indeed. I know exactly what you meant when you referring to the moment the Queen walks away living the Virgin-subs to their fate, by throwing them to a very charged tribe. The old story of 'sacrificing' oneself for the good of the many. Classic images of martyrdom and S&M impulses. I enjoyed this production tremendously and I hope we'll see more of them in the future… A little bee told me something else classic, on S&M theme is on the way…. The problem for many is that these kinds of shows are accessible only by invitation, to selective audience. I'm glad I could share this with others (thanks to D.A. really....) ooooh its in the spirit of Stravinsky's original challenging first performance I've always thought of Rite of Spring as a sexy aural piece; now its visually gorgeous. This is stimulation par excellence! Everything, insofar as it is in itself, strives to persist in its own being |
