Due to the forthcoming cuts in local authority spending, the condition of the economy, social mayhem and not to forget a looming Armageddon, what pollicises would you put in place if you were a minister in the political party that wins the next election?

Return Local Authorities to providing basic services and public amenities. Insist on major cuts to the EU competencies, bureaucracy and budget, and resulting reduction in EU cost to the UK. Return the welfare state to being a safety net rather than a lifestyle choice. Scrap a load of ideolically driven legislation and regulation that adds a financial burden to industry without an equal realisable benefit. Scrap Trident. Tie MP's pay to, say, 3 times the average pay of their constituents', so when Joe Average does well the MPs do well, and when he's doing badly they feel it too. That should focus their attention and efforts.

I was amazed to see on Reuters the other day that the deposit for a general election has gone down from the £5000 I remember to just £1000. That makes standing as an "IC"/"whiplash"/"faux Libertarian" candidate almost an impulse buy.... yet still I see none of our "activists" putting their money where there mouths are. I think that's a whole lot more depressing than anything that actually goes on in Westminster!
My favourite policy proposal over the past 12 months was the OMRLP's idea of reducing landfill by removing the wheels from wheelie bins.

Oh yeah, and cut spending on the Olympics. Use existing facilities and all VIPs to stay in local B&Bs at their own expense. VIP transport will be by using Boris' rentabikes. International man of mystery

making voting labour a criminal activity but seriously, this country needs to return to spending what it has, not what it may earn. the psychological lesson has been learned by alot in this country, time to make it part of the accepted norm. sadly (or not) accepted normas cannot be dictated by law. truly inspirational leader needed.

Apparently stopping Government advertising on TV and Radio would save half a billion a year. Then you could also cut out local authority glossies and leaflets, should save a bit. International man of mystery |
