..anything.

Truly living?

Apologies in advance for this seriously random late night ramble, but am going to dump my thoughts here anyway as I cant find my pen drive.

And it is at least a little BDSM related.

I went to Coventry market today as it is the best place in town for the seriously cheap rucksack that you need when you park on the edge to save parking costs and cycle the last mile. My last one had developed a large hole at the bottom of its largest orifice which meant it was no longer viable.

Bizarrely the rucksack stall is adjacent to the pagan stall. I don't know why but at Coventry market, everything worth visiting is concentrated in a little bunch right by the door :). Handy.

After getting my new rucksack I went to the pagan stall to by some more incense. Incense is lovely :)

The market holder remembered me from a month ago and I asked her what had developed regarding the shop lifters she had a month ago, although I kind of already knew the answer.

She said they came back recently and returned the stock. No surprises there :-D

I picked up a copy of the local spiritual contact magazine and thumbing through it later I was struck by the similarity of the "alternative spiritual" scene and the BDSM scene...

Lots of sexuality workshops - yes sex is spiritual for sure, but so many adverts for sensual/sexual events where "boundaries are honoured and respected"? - sounds familiar.

Gurus and "respected members of the community" abound left right and centre.... "can anyone recommend a good <insert practice of your choice> practitioner" threads on IC...

Lots of meditation, trance, regression, dance - subspace anyone?

The whole "new age" spirituality and alternative therapy scene and the BDSM scene have close parallels.... of course there is little new about either of them......

Dominance, submission, assimilation of pain, ecstasy, the concepts of suffering and self discovery are common themes in both...as is the prevalence of damaged individuals on their voyage back to wholeness, and the few who will inevitably prey on them rather than help them.

I dont know where this ramble is going so I will post it anyway before my internet connection gives up the ghost :-D

The machine NEVER gives up the ghost.

But, that aside...

If you recognise a spiritual compass inside you it will presumably point north, wherever you are. You see parallels...you see connections...

What would be common to both? In your experience? I mean - what is the common factor in both your percieved experience of bdsm and your percieved experience of spirituality?

Who are you observing, in both worlds?

Are you not the observer, as well as the observed?

I am glad on re-reading that the post made more sense than I remembered!

Yes, you are right about the compass thing - a very interesting analogy.

I think what I was recognising on the surface in both worlds was the way people organise themselves as much as anything else - I would probably have spotted similarities in a magazine about flower arranging groups :)

What I was recognising below the surface I will keep to myself at least until I am better able to articulate it :-D

The past is history, tomorrow is a mystery, the present is a gift.

Human nature? Oh, you see that everywhere these days!
