I must have missed something with the name calling.

I wouldn't doubt he means well and his hearts in the right place, i would say though you are expressing an opinion.

I find his arguments archaic and tinged with a monomania that lack the reflection and self critisism that progressive politics require.

Have never met him and I am sure hes a good egg.:)

Hes one of the kindest men i have ever met. However also built for war!! Hes saved my ass on more than one occassion.

Thanks big man.

Generous to a fault. Its interesting how many people who meet him like him.

In terms of the internet and ic the culture appears to be if i disagree with an arguement ill slag off the poster. This goes far wider than Nortyboy and seems to be a feature of some people who disrespect others cos it easy to do sitting behind a pc.

Of course I am expressing an opinion, what else would it be? I did think the thread I read was overly scathing of someone being a socialist.

Its not being a socialist that I found problematic, it was arguing against documented evidence.

It is a consensus that moneterist policies worked, acheived there goals, hence neo-keynsians have adopted it their models. Theres nothing wrong with having strong beleifs or putting a strong case, but i would say if you care about something that much you would at least do proper research. You should then modify your veiws in light of evidence.

Its not about exonerating thatcher or glorifying the 80's, what Nortyboy was doing was giving the kind of rant that was heard in the early 80's but faded out.

A consensus amongst whom? Oh yeah, the de-industrialisation of Britain 'worked' in the view of the short sighted pragmatists, indeed! And now the over reliance on the City of London has put the UK well and truly in the quagmire! All a result of these very same policies!
