…a picture paints a thousand words…
I was thinking about this and wondered about the truth in it. As a man, I know that am much more image-focused, but an image tells me nothing about the person. Sure, we all want to know what a person looks like (and that they don't trigger the gag reflex), but an image can tell so little about who the person is.
I have got thoroughly cheesed off with reviewing pictures of men who apparently cannot read the basic requirement of the site of 'no penises' or women of 'no vaginal close-ups'. And why on earth would a person want to post such a picture anyway? What does it say about them - that, as a man you are no more than your (usually unimpressive) cock, or as a woman that you are no more than your cunt?
Whilst I am more responsive, on a basic level, to images, I know that it is far more important to know a person, and that 'a thousand words' will not scratch the surface of even the most simple person (Wikipedia devotes nearly 600 words to its description of the single-celled “amoeba”), so why should we expect any more from a picture?
We all know the maxim that “you only get one chance to make a first impression”, and it's as true on IC as anywhere else. If a picture is the first thing that a person sees of you, then it should tell something about you, piques their interest, makes them want to engage you and find out more. Shouldn't it?

Indeed... we are more than the sum of an image and a few words.
If I take you from behind, push myself into your mind When you least expect it, will you try to reject it? Give it up, do as I say; Give it up and let me have my way.. |

My new picture has given me quite a few memos. They have all been so nice but there is one that has made me smile a bit. It is from someone I was chatting to a while ago. Much younger than me, and a bit of a player. Totally full of himself and we bounced off each other for a few weeks. He crossed a line with me one day and I said cya. All of a sudden he now wants to be my friend again and the barriers he put so rudely in the way were all of a sudden of no consequence. I think NOT!! I am more than a picture and those that take their time to get to know me will realise that. RD xx
