I have to wear glasses when I am driving, horse riding, motocross, generally when I have to do most things and im getting fed up of them, plus im so vain they cost a fortune everytime.

So I had an appointment to see if I can have laser eye surgery.

Apparantly I can't have it due to afew things wrong with my eyes, but I can have intraocular lenses.

So Ive decided to go for it, its not cheap, but it means I definately wont have to wear glasses and most certainly wont get cataracts in the future.

Ive booked it for May, argh im really nervous, im a wuss when Ive got to put eye drops in my eyes, let alone someone taking my lens out and replacing it!

I had laser done 6 years ago, and although the procedure itself was a little scarey (I asked for a Valium, which helped), I couldn't be happier!

I looked into the lens insertion thing, as I was so longsighted few places would touch me for laser, but it did seem kind of scary, so I waited a bit.

Hope it goes well!

Excellent, glad to hear other people who've had similar procedures, makes it seem more real and less scary!

Glad you are still happy with it :-)

Think I will be asking for valium too if its on offer, haha.

I had mine done as well (didn't have laser but micro surgey) and I found it very liberating to be able to do things (without worrying about lenses / glasses)

It's like having your eyes washed. You'll see with real clarity afterwards.

It's well the inevitable nerves.

Amazing experience.

The cost has always put me off but one day, I'd like to be able to swim in the sea without worrying about lenses floating away.

It has worked out expensive (although my surgeon has said mine has worked out alot cheaper than some peoples surgery) but I just thought in the long run it will pay itself.

When I add up every year I have an eye test, usually every two years I buy new glasses which run into afew hundred quid each time, I thought its worth it for a lifetime free of all that shit.

I could never get the hang of contacts unfortunately, such a wuss when it comes to putting anything in my eye!

Didn't know some people couldn't have LASIK. I've not looked properly into it, just generally been saving up. Got glasses a few months ago. I don't mind them per se, but I don't like being broken and surgery seems like a good investment when you think about the future cost of glasses.

Also, when shooting, glasses aren't ideal as the true focal spot is right in the center of the lenses, and that's not what you end up looking through. Contacts solve this, but I don't fancy them, so surgery would be the preferable solution.

What men in all the world have shown such daring?

Yeah I wasnt aware that some people werent suitable.

I had my initial consultation with Optical Express, its free and youre under no obligation so you can book a thorough appoinment and they can tell you there and then what is suitable, can't fault them, they were very good and then put me in touch with a top professor in this type of surgery in London, Mr Jan Venter http://uk.opticalexpress.com/intraocular-lenses/....

Once Ive had the surgery they tweak your lens prescription with the laser and then thats it, it lasts for life (as long as I keep out the UV rays)

Upside as well is for the rest of your life you get big discounts on designer sunglasses and half price dental care (as optical express also run dental clinics)

Plus free eye tests every year just to make sure everythings ok.

I definately think its worth it and especially if you are doing things such as shooting, most definately.

Just playing devil's advocate for a moment, Optical Express and Boots wouldn't do my laser surgery at all, and never mentioned that others would go to a higher prescription.

It MIGHT be worth asking around with more specialised firms? I did actually go to the only place in Britain that would touch my prescription, due to the brand new method that they used.

Unless you're happy with the lens insertion thingy, which scared me more (but then I've never been logical!). :)

I've looked into it since reading this. It is still expensive but you are right over time, it would work out cheaper than paying £10 a month for C lens solution, plus eye tests, new lenses, glasses etc. Just need to remember where I put my prescription then I'll make an appointment.
