Very, very sad and shocked, after hearing on the radio about Alexander McQueen's death. An original British eccentric & XXIst Century dandy.
The son of a cabbie and a flower seller, a man with the wrong accent and from the wrong side of the tracks, yet he rocked the elitist world of couture with his irreverent, truly British with and quirky sense of glamour.
His creations were for me fetish before I knew what fetish was. and he pulled his pants down on stage when he showed his first collection in Paris.
Another inspirational man, taken away too soon.

No, No, No, No, No. This is so wrong. Such talent wasted. My thoughts to his loved ones and friends. Sx 'My Brothers, My Sisters, My Blood...'

Apparently hanged himself. Sad for those he left behind, even if I didn't think much of his sense of fashion. ETA he lost his mother recently, speculation is whether that got the better of him. “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act” - George Orwell Edited 11 Feb 10, 5:42 PM by MissKimberley

Oh, that's really sad. He was such a huge talent, one of the very few designers out there to make genuinely imaginative clothes that were actually wearable to any extent. It takes real skill to be able to combine the two. One of God's own prototypes, a high powered mutant of some kind, never considered for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Yes, and he was wearing Union Jack boxers. A true East End hooligan! "People are inherently evil, but very, very funny" - Joe Orton.

His legend will live on. There is this story, I don't know if it's true or not, but who cares? it's part of his legend: When he was working as an apprentice for a taylor in Savile Row, he worked on a suit for Prince Charles. You know how tailors pin notes hand-written on brown paper inside suits, marking measures, instructions, etc? Traditionally, they are left in the suit once the linen is stitched on.
Legend goes that Alexander McQueen use to pin these notes inside prince Charles' suits, with the word "cunt" written on them "People are inherently evil, but very, very funny" - Joe Orton.

Really sad news. I hope he and Isabella Blow are kicking up a riot in heaven.

I instantly thought of Isabella Blow, such a tragedy. Hope they are somewhere better. x |
