What a crappy holiday for single people. Tis a shame we don't have a 'Single And Fucking Loving It' Day. A day when we could celebrate being single with other single people. A day when restaurants would remove all their tables for 2 or 4 and replace them with tables for 1.
They'd put signs on the door: Strictly no couples allowed!
Halmark could make a range of cards for singles, and you could send them to perfect strangers, just to brighten their day. Because we all know that single people need the occasional reason to smile. That little connection with someone else to remind us that even though we are single, we are not alone.
TV would show movies on divorce instead of romances. And perhaps the odd horror movie too. (actually, a scene from a horror movie just popped into my head. One of the Jason movies I saw as a teen. A guy and a girl were fucking in a cabin in the woods, and Jason came in and ran a spear?? through the both of them right there on the bed. See the dangers of being in a relationship.)
If your 'couple friends' phone up wanting to invite you out - because we all know couples feel guilty when they have single friends, and try to include them in outings (but of course we always end up feeling a 3rd wheel) - you can confidently tell them you are busy. That you are partying with other singles. You would of course like to invite them, but they'd only feel out of place.
What would you do to celebrate Single and Fucking Loving it Day?

That's an excellent idea! I haven't been to the LFF in months. I promised my best friend that I'd watch her kids over the weekend so her and her partner could have the day together, alone. But it looks like the kids will be staying with friends - so I might have the day free. Hmmmmmmmmm You say Ouch like it's a bad word.

A friend of mine has organised a Singles party, which is a great idea. Going to LFF in the afternoon is tempting.

Well this isn't really answering your question which is a bit naughty of me but I can feel a bit of a valentines day rant coming on...I really really *really* don't like valentines day...I don't even like it when i'm not single cos no one can ever live up to the artificial hype created by everyone (the media?) about how gooey and romantic you have to be blah blah blah (and which also never happens in real life like it does in the utterly romantic overactve imagination that I've been blessed with) and I hate it even more when i'm single cos i'm made to feel like a reject/loser/billy no mates for being single even tho for the day before and after I'm fine about it! This year I'm going away for the weekend to do some meditation and dancing and being in a beautiful place with a load of strangers where the aim is (i think) to practice opening up to love in all its shapes and forms.
If valentines day is about love then we should be saying I love you to all the people we love whatever their role in our life, lovers, parents, children, friends (we never say it enough to our friends do we!) and to ourselves bugger can't remember your question now!

If they are perfect strangers, then how do you know they are single? "Congratulations on being single??? Darling, is there something you'd like to tell me?" I always behave. I just don't specify how.
