About 20 mins ago, Admin closed down the Toybox post, citing that it wasn't kinky enough.
And here's my damn disclaimer for all of you: I am not affiliated in any bloody way with this event. I don't necessarily think that their policy, when first posted on the board was that great, I don't know @Purrverse, I didn't know about it at all until I saw it being slated here on IC.
So yeah, the mainly U35 policy may have pissed people off and I don't necessarily blame people for feeling a bit taken aback, being asked to provided references etc if they are over 35. The owner later explained that *everyone* would have to, which I think is ok. And tbh, this isn't that much different from the U35 munch policies, so I'm not sure what is oh so different this time.
But **** off with the idea that it isn't kinky & erotic (censored because I would rather not be banned, please). It says vanilla people are welcome, but it is so clearly a kink event. What, would the Brighton Munch that actively *encouraged* people to bring vanilla's along been shut down for that as well?
Loads of events are open to vanillas from LAM to Antichrist. Lots of events encourage new, sometimes vanilla people to join them, because that gets people curious and then there might be a possibility they might join our delightful little "community".
Most of the time I think this is a damn good forum. I have mostly disagreed with people who say its moderators may have a quick trigger finger in the past. Hell, I've even been given a time out before; but once I stopped being annoyed, you know what, I agree that I deserved it.
But seriously now. This is just silly, in my opinion. I have no idea why I've got in such a tizz about this particular thing... But it just seems so irrational to me ![]()
Admin, I'm not trying to slate you, I think you do a good job on here, esp with so many... um... quick tempered people. But I disagree with this action and I was wondering if you could explain your choice a bit more.
End of soapbox.

I was going to post this on the original thread, but think I will do so here instead. Just wanted to say that the KS site copy was written by Purrverse and the other KS London founder in a bit of a rush and that this announcement was made BEFORE the rest of the KS team actually had a chance to properly discuss what we wanted our entrance policy to be. Not good advertising, we know, but we are keen to make amends. For the record, personally I'm not keen on age restrictions. I know a shitload of playful, sexy people over 35 on this site I'd love to come to the party and I'd sure as heck rather spend the evening with them than a load of boring 19 year olds, however pretty they happen to be while in the bloom of youth. Anyhow, if you check the website you'll see the entire entrance policy has been amended. However, I do understand Purrverse posting as she did. She wants Kinky Salon parties to have the same sort of atmosphere, crowd and vibe as the SF ones, so of course it makes sense to try and engineer them to that effect, including the crowd -- but we all acknowledge that restrictions are not the right way to go about it. We've now had a long discussion amongst ourselves and with the original KS creators in SF, who gave us a bit of a proverbial slap for advertising entrance policy around age as we had. Mainly, it's a kind of performance anxiety: we know that whatever KF London turns out to be, it will grow organically anyway and become its own monster without having to exclude any particular age group, because the concept of KS will naturally appeal to the sort of people Purrverse would want to attract anyhow. The essential point is really that it's going to be private, because we want to make sure of our numbers, and because we want to create a sense of community, that anyone can approach anyone and know that they're vouched for. It's not a BDSM club per se, so we can expect guests from all sorts of different London sexual subcultures; there are going to be a lot of unfamiliar faces as well as familiar ones. I echo Purrverse in saying that in the main, at clubs and munches I also don't find it easy to mingle with strangers and really like the idea of a grand sized sexy play party where everyone knows everyone. It's a shame that Admin has decided to lock the thread because we're not excluding people from the event who aren't exclusively BDSM-orientated. Personally I see the possibility of opening connections to other sexual subcultures as positive, not negative. There are plenty of other events advertised on this site in which kink features but isn't the primary focus, so I imagine the thread locking must have been done for other reasons. It's called Kinky Salon for a reason. But hey, maybe Admin have a Kinky-o-meter and know better than us plebs. "People are inherently evil, but very, very funny" - Joe Orton. Edited 9 Feb 10, 4:08 PM by Ms_Tytania

Thanks @Verte, having an explanation for the rewording is great. It looks set to be a decent event if people let it be and straighten out all the niggles. Sadly, Toybox is no longer what I'm concerned about though. Nor is the U35 thing to be honest. It's the idea that events that welcome newcomers or even (shock horror) vanilla people cannot possibly be *true* kink events. That is what the post by Admin implies, which makes me both a bit uncomfortable, given that I have taken vanilla friends along to places like LAM (and they had a great time)! It makes me feel oddly segregated. It also makes me think that Admin might be being a bit hypocritical, if events like Antichrist can advertise on here but Kinky Salon can't. If so, it smacks of double standards and *twooo-ism's*, which saddens me. And if it isn't *really* about the vanilla thing, then I have to consider the idea that Admin might be biased because they don't like U35s/fancy dress/a particular person involved in the organisation of the event. Which also makes me uncomfortable, because I always thought they were pretty fair. Meh. I hate making a fuss, but this has frustrated me a bit. These people are trying to make an event happen. Yes, it's probably going to fuck up an awful lot as it starts and begins to evolve. Yes, the original post was just one of those mishaps. But I would like to think that we would try to support new ventures that are working on bringing vanilla and kinky and who knows how many sexual subcultures together. I personally cannot help but see this as a good thing and something that I would support. Yes, they may have ballsed up the OP. But they are trying to do something good, I think. It sounded like that to me, anyway. I like to think that Admin had another reason for shutting down the post. Maybe it was just the flaming that the first post started. But it would be nice if we were told that, not just that it got banned because it had the word "vanilla" in it. Also, I am aware that I probably sound quite wanky and self righteous on this weblog. I'm sorry, I just couldn't take me making little "snarfle-snarfle-snarfle-whoot?" noises at the computer monitor and turn it into something vaguely coherent without a degree of that, I'm afraid. It's not intended. I don't claim to really know anything about Admin's machinations, "the kink community" or what any of us should be doing; this is just my opinion Exx Edited for so called coherency. So what sort of club is it? from the website it looks like a cabaret night. Why don't Mecca Bingo Halls face east?

Admin of this site is somewhat inscrutible. Their actions, like those of Russia during the war, are "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery and enshrouded in an enigma". I can't imagine the arguments about age limits helped in what may have been a borderline decision. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/226772/

it also looks similar to the ab fab munch that was held just under a month ago, something that got lauded on these boards. Special Ed *WARNING do not click if you cannot take a joke or are too sensitive*

You mean like the abfab cabaret? This might help you...
Sounds like a party to me. But as you can see from their website a party where people are encouraged to: "Play safely and consensually" "Have sensible safe sex practices" "Let us all remember right here and now what a woman is to a man!" "Get on your knees!" Ranse Burgess: Fire Fly |
