a power cut, and the badges we wear........ (0)

The sun shines and all that has fallen in the way of snow has gone. The cold as usual bone numbingly damp. But here in my domicile warm or at least it is now.

We had a powercut this morning and I am pleased I was not at the place of my employ. So I hunkered back down under the quilt as we have no gas in the house and played with the Itouch a few games of crib a card game I really enjoy and some virtual air hockey.

And dozed into a dream of joy. I was sitting around a campfire Smokey and warm being bathed in woodsmoke every time the light breeze changed direction. And of course a pot on the boil to make tea. I awoke though to the sound of whirring as the fan heater was driving out the chill. And alas the smell of woodsmoke disappeared into the place where dreams go.

Dreams are those things which we desire sometimes and no dream book can ever give you their meaning for each one is tailored to the dreamer really for I may dream of being in the woods and you may dream of being in the woods but they would have for the most part different meanings. Mine is always that deep seated desire to be out there and for someone else it could be a dark fear of them or something more mundane.

Today when I had warmed up I started the spring clean for want of a better phrase of my camping and bushcraft gear. It is all too easy to have too much gear, the little just in case bits of kit. Of things that will never happen and if your honest to yourself you have something that can do the job already. Over the last few years it has become a good business this gadget making for would be bushcrafters and for that matter all manner of outdoorsy types.

There is what is now called an EDC or every day carry why I ask myself the only thing I carry is my SAK and that is not often as most every day I am at work. I have a multi tool but that is in the bike tool case (must get the beast into the shop for a service lol) a lot of things I feel are some sort of badge a 'look I do bushcraft etc' I see many people wearing walking kit but they only walk to and from their cars going to and from work.

So many carry “badges” but do not walk the walk so to speak I may carry and small forest axe while in the woods but it does not make me either a woodsman or Lizzie Borden. It is only when we use the item as a tool that others will know if it is an adornment to fool others or a tool to process wood.

I have two proper mountain climbing Karabiners but it does not make me a mountain climber. In fact they are part of my hammock mod to make it easier to erect and take down the hammock.

And on that deep blessings to all and peace, love and light.

Blessed be, peter xxxxx
