I can and did criticise them for what they DID say, and that's still viewable on this thread.

The question was, would it be ok to discriminate against blacks in the same was as over 35s. Or Jews or lesbians or obese people? If not, why not. Why is it not ok to ask a black person for a reference, but ok to ask an over 35?

Because, as this thread has indicated, quite a large proportion of those over 35 are no fun at all. I mean look at this mess of a thread. A new club type thing appears, they have their intended audience clearly in mind and state as much, and now we're surrounded by grey rage.

Sure maybe rules regarding who is allowed into where is a bit unethical, but what about an event organisers right to organise the event that they want? Is it really such a wholly monstrous idea to be surrounded by members of your own generation?

End of the day, at the risk of sounding like a Tory, if the idea isn't a good one then the market will not sustain it and it will fail. I don't begrudge people the right to discriminate however they choose, it's on them that they will be judged for that by the wider populace and will need to tend to its fiscal sustainability.

Laffs @ grey rage!

Not sure what "fun" over 35s are supposed to garner from being told they need to provide a reference for their costumeyness or interestingness, but as I've been costuming longer than the OP, I suppose there is a joke in there, but it's on her.

Hmmm at " a bit unethical". From what Lush London and Cosmic1 have said, it's simply not legal.

I've no objection to peeps wanting to be with their own age group wahtsoever, but PLEASE don't insult the over 35s intelligence by publically telling them they need references and by making them (on the original post and website) feel unwelcome.

The law begrudges people the right to discriminate against others, regardless of what you or I may think.

Right, I must off!

Church!! (well partially anyway)

This is all theory, and whilst Purrverse has most definitely taken probably everything on board, and is probably liaising with her fellow organisers to further fine tune valid issues raised, I have no doubt in my mind that it will work marvelously in practice, after a few hiccups.

You can preach (heh) all you want about discrimination this, discrimination that, the law blah blah blah...

But ...there are LOADS of places where the owner of the establishment expresses who they want to come in based on age and attire.

Is it discrimination? Damn straight

Does everyone have a good time? Those who get in are oblivious, so yes as there's no "undesirables"...except for those not allowed to come in (you're wearing scruffy trainers, son).

After the initial flood of people is it all hunky-dory? Yep, except for the sick...erg.

What about 18-35 holidays? or couples holidays?? or singles holidays?? or events for X-type of people?? and parties for Y-type of people...oh herrrooowww!!

It's all getting a bit meh now. I think we should all have a cup of tea, and settle down and just watch what happens. The ney-sayers may well get to stand on their little pedestal and go, "ner nerr...told you". And then?

And those who are hesitant (or totally for it) go, and experience an all-in-all good event with a few teething problems...but still have some awesome memories to hark back to.

I never did like the theory papers anyway...

I can see your point Miss P, but don't most fetish clubs discriminate against people dressed in street clothes? and do we have a problem with that? I think not.

I think that it's real shame that a thread about an exciting new event turned into yet another IC age debate. It's an events post yet has been cluttered up with boring arguments that are rehashed on here time and time and time again. If you don't like what's posted how about just tutting, rolling your eyes and saying to yourself "Well, I think I'll be giving that event a wide berth." For a 'community' that prides itself on liberation and hedonism there are a lot of moaning minnies around.

(braces self for swarm of outraged posts about being called grumpy feckers)

Quite right. What amazes me is that the OP admitted very soon to the poor wording, explained her real aims and listened to everybody to make changes and find more suitable options. And yet, the whingeing and moaning keeps coming.
