Wow. That all got remarkably snarky remarkably fast.

We might come to this. In a total non-political way, so please don't take this post as me being snidely judgemental, anyone. It just sounds fun.

Seriously, when you have to put a freaking disclaimer on a rsvp in order not to get shrieked at for being discriminatory? IC is mighty touchy this week :-$

Exx

Well... updating the original post to actually take the discriminatory and poorly chosen phrasing out might have helped, instead of the poster saying that she didn't mean it that way and she actually meant something else and then refusing to update the cause of all this anyway while calling ICers a bunch of drama queens.

Poor phrasing leads to criticism, leads to defensiveness, leads to snarking on all sides- and then no one wins. It may just be an issue of minor culture-shock, with the OP unprepared for the slightly dour nature of the English after all that sunshine in San Francisco.

I hope those who go to the party enjoy it and its colourful nature- I'm saving my costuming for an Apocalypse Ball later in the year, I have a great "evil mutant" theme that I want to work on...

There's nearly as much bullshit in this thread as sour grapes. It'll be interesting to see which there is most of by the end.

Certainly makes the event all the more appealing although I have no idea how I'd make a Doghouse-sized Webster The Spider costume.

But (as she said thereafter...a bit further down the page, or two) it would mess up the context to which other posters were already referring to, no?

And...it's human nature to react to change anywho.

No- I thought that it would be backhanded to change the OP to reflect the new wording and thus removing the context for people's complaints. Which is why, if you look, both are up at the top. I hate it when someone edits their main post to remove offensive stuff so everyone responding looks like they're making shit up.

From my understanding of the legality of public vs private- a public event anyone can go to, there's no list, money is taken at the door, etc, while a private event is controlled.

I know it might be shocking, but somehow I've managed to make friends. Says something that most of them aren't active on IC though...

So is there room at the inn?? possibly for a later event?

There was a group of us looking to go to San Fransisco to check out the scene later this year but looks like itll be next year now.

... or you could say "due to a poor choice of wording that members in this thread brought to my attention, I've edited this post to make the actual meaning clearer."

Then no one is considered to be a liar or making things up, the problematic wording has been sorted out for anyone who just looks at the OP before responding, and we can all get on with wondering about how to make this or that on-theme costume.

Not wishing to piss on your parade but it ceased being that private when you posted it on the board.

i advertise none of the private parties i am involved with in a public forum.

i think it needs to be remembered that folk will get their noses pushed out of joint no matter what the subject, that is the way of the world...

Another way of the world is that folk generally don't appreciate being reminded that they are getting older. i sure as hell don't... My age is just a number and quite irrelevant until i am told i am too old for something that involves "ridiculousness".... *pouts*....

Now see, the problem here is that you haven't yet mentioned IQ. You should get everyone to show up with a certificate and subtract 10% of their IQ from their actual age and if that is less than 35 then they are set to go. Or maybe add 10% and if it is more than 35 they cannot come on the premises.

can i just say as an obvious point... this is a private party and therefore the organisers can pick and choose exactly who they want to attend just like any other private parties that happen!
