I did find that pulling the inner conductors from standard 13amp mains cable leaving just the outer sleeve made a very interesting impromptu whip, oddly I didn't discover that one during play! | ||

Electrical flex and the wire that holds net curtains.....both very interesting and severe to use, but at least blood cleans off the curtain wire really well.

Try something with solid core not flexible conductors... CAt5 network cable used to work well... Hmm kink on a budget? | ||
