Yep I agree, I'm one of them! "Ladies and Gentlemen, To those among you, Who are easily frightened, We suggest you turn away now, To those of you, Who think you can take it, we say Welcome to the Mad House"

As others have said, it's clear that a lot of different things are being discussed here. I use the term in varied ways myself usually to refer to an endorphin high type experience but I also recognise the descriptions of feeling immersed in the more fantasy like elements of submission such as the boot licking and being a footstool which can feel so divine. Amongst some people I know, generally the younger crowd, I've noticed a new phrase being used where people talk about being 'spaced', as in 'So and so spaced me at the munch the other day' which as far as I can tell refers to a feeling of heady but short lived submission or even just malliability. I can't get used to it myself but it shows how varied the definitions can be! To answer the actual OP, I can get to a very altered state of being through being fisted. It's incredibly intense to the point of being a bit frightening sometimes and I feel like I'm flying around in space. I feel very vulnerable and actually very vanilla in that I just want to be treated very gently and be reassured and feel protected so perhaps that means I couldn't call it subspace at all! I've always though of sub space as a kind of adrenalin rush. The only time i can think of that I could claim to have experienced anything like it was years ago as a teenager. Technically it had nothing to do with D/s or submission, but my cousin Heather and i were playing with an old dog cart. I was pulling her around the garden while she shouted mush, mush. I always put it down to an adrenalin rush, but i got megga high, got the feeling i was invincible and could just run and run for ever. Would you call that sub space?

Yep, does it for me too, but I find it is a rather different sub space to the one I experience as a result of pain.

Apologies if this has already been linked, but I don't have time to read the whole thread. This was linked by another ICer in another thread and I think it's appropriate to this discussion: http://www.pittsburghleather.org/Articles/PlayTi... x 'Carve your name into my arm. Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed.'

I have experienced different kinds of 'subspace' while in rope bondage, a relaxing suspension will space me, the smell of hemp gets my mind drifting before even being tied up, the connection, the feel of the rope on my skin and rope tight around my neck all send me to a wonderful place. However stressful suspensions will send me to another place, a place where I deal with the pain of it and accept my predicament. Both wonderful places but very different from one another. Its not begging....Its saying please very politely

Yes, I have gone spacey during a prolonged beating. But also, when with my partner, she has been asserting her authority, just by initiating an exchange about it. As the discussion proceeds I might become aroused and/or experience a very profound rush of submission which is for me, much like "sub space". Floaty and so very focussed that everything else recedes and is hardly there. I have also experienced the same feeling when required to meditate on my submission. Not always, but quite often It's lovely, even when it hurts!
