http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/04/extreme_... A sobering thought for many of us, especially those whose livlihoods depend on having computer access, as the article says it may breach Human Rights law as it is a fairly severe penalty for someone not yet found guilty. ....and for those who missed it there was an article in the Register earlier this week about being a year into the extreme porn law. (apologies if this one HAS been on the boards, i hadnt noticed it) http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/02/01/extreme_... As you can see from the second article, in most cases the EP law is being used as promised as an incidental charge...ie stuff that gets found when the police are grubbing around for another reason. That makes this Welsh case and the Mold tiger man even more interesting (and worrying) as they appear to be stand alone EP.

I really cannot see how a social networking site such as IC could be viewed as extreme porn. More like a facebook for pervs..... "I am from nowhere and everywhere" Karl Lagerfeld

i doubt it would have got thus far if those dates relate to his arrest...it could be dates the stuff was downloaded and he just didnt delete it before the law went live. But yeah...if the dates are the arrest...they'll laugh it out of court

Yes, my understanding is that if he acquired it before the law came into effect and then did not delete it, it would still be an offence. That would be true even if he hadn't looked at it since before the law came into effect. Even if he had deleted it in a way that allowed him to recover it. It does disturb me just how much Britain is becoming a nanny state. "Big Brother" conjures up other impressions, other than merely a silly contemporary reality TV programme. Who watches the watchers? This is a bigger issue, affecting more than just our own community. "I am from nowhere and everywhere" Karl Lagerfeld

The Register is a bit like Channel Five News, you have to turn over to the BBC to check if it is true. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

Yanno, some of the things you post here make an awful lot of sense. Unfortunately the rest of them make you look like a complete and utter plonker. This is one of those occasions, Rodney. Regards SN ================================== |
