Quite, but it's the same smoke screen; if they use words like 'gag the press' then it conjours images of totalitarianism, and of course we can't have that.

In fact, if an international media magnate deciding the next British Government from his offices in a foreign country is not toalitarianism, I don't know what it is; it is certainly dictatorship.

MM is NOT trying to gag the press; he is not advocating a system whereby journalists could be prevented from reporting (say) the enhancing of a government report that might be used to justify the invasion of a county with lots of oil, he's advocating a law that stops the gutter press insulting people for being kinky. It doesn't matter what a person's sexuality is, even Tony Blair's; what matters is if they can do the job properly and with integrity.

I think we have to be very clear on the issue, and maintain our focus on that.
