I've seen the term "Rope Bunny" used on a few threads on here and wondered where it came from. I've done a quick search on the web to try and find where the term came from but can't find anything obvious. Any ideas?

You're right, the etymology is obscure. I think there's a desire among some bdsm people to coin handy phrases to fit common kinks; sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I always felt for instance that the phrase "chubby chaser" while pleasingly alliterative, was demeaning to fat girls. The term "rubberist" (a French coinage) has never really caught on and most of us prefer something like "rubber perve." I've always assumed that rope bunny is one of those attempted neologisms that doesn't quite come off. I'd be very interested to know how lovers of rope feel about the term? On this subject I once met a lovely lady from here on IC who is very much into rope bondage. She said something I've never forgotten: "You only have to show me a piece of rope and I start to come". I realised then that people who love rope, really really really love rope. So maybe Rope Bunny isn't a bad name. There is more than one way to skin a cat but there is only one try per cat

I think the idea comes from the Playboy bunnies, ie. just stand there and look pretty, while I wrap some rope around you. Manchester FAB Munch

I think the phrase "bondage bunny" was around before "rope bunny". It doesn't derive from playboy. It comes from the usage of "bunny" meaning "an enthusiast for a particular activity", as for example the soldier's slang "gun bunny".

Interesting that you see it that way. As a fat girl, I find it oddly empowering to use words like fat, chubby, etc. rather than the kinder "BBW" et al. I see Rope Bunny as something fairly similar. It's like having permission to go all soft, cuddly and silly when wrapped up in rope.

I always presumed it was to do with having someone to experiment on, as in bunnies used for make-up tests etc.... It's a little nicer than saying "rope rat"!
