Work experience for the potential Pro Domme? (48)

This post is on the Pro-Mistresses etc web board.

I'm just throwing this quick question out to established (London-based) Pro Dommes...

I have a 'vanilla' colleague who has recently revealed to me that she holds an ambition of becoming a Professional Dominatrix. Until this surprising revelation, I would have NEVER have imagined that she held such thoughts. In hindsight though, I can't see how I missed it?! She's a tall, slender, stunning professional woman with a personality that immediately captivates those that she engages with.

The problem is that she has never met, spoken to or watched a working PD (she is 100% non-scene).

Any thoughts or advice? Is it possible for her to observe sessions in a 'work experience' style, whilst querying an established PD before finding opportunities for employment within the 'Industry'?

Any advice would be passed on and appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PK.

There are many issues with this. We PDs get many enquiries from people who want to be PDs. They want to pump us for information, learn our skills and get advice on how to deal with the many problems we face.

Why would we assist a competitor?

Don't get me wrong, many of us PDs are friends and we're happy to skill swap, but that is exactly it. We have established ourselves, learned the hard way and taken the risks we needed to take to get to where we are. We support each other, we swap information, and we'll teach each other something useful. It's give and take, and it's always within reason. I won't, for example, teach another PD within 100 miles of me my particular specialities. That's a bit of a no brainer.

Multi domme establishments, of which there are few, are usually happy to take on a new face, teach them and take a chunk of commission off them. Your friend could try one of those.

So effectivley a "barrier to entry" in the pro-domme market, no doubt higher for those considered more a threat.

Anti-competative behaviour like this is common and understandable in unregulated markets.

The Punter loses out via less choice and less competition. The risk though is you may end up getting "bushwacked" by a Mass entry of competitors where it becomes impossible to tell the difference between quality and dross.

An example of this is prostitution in London thats been swamped by eastern europeans.

Lady Anna explained her personal MO only. There is no unique or universal way of dealing with this, we are all different. So no, there isn't a regulation of "new Dommes" into the market, nor any other tin foil hat theories. Some people are happy to train potential new PD's, while others aren't. it won't change the influx of new PD's.

Well, I wouldn't say that the UK, of all places, is short in choice of PD's or competition. PD's become PD's via different routes and for different reasons. It's definitely a free market, and that's not going to change even if every single PD in the country refuses to train anyone new. In this country, we don't have those large establishments where new ladies are trained regularly, like they do in Australia to give an example. and yet, there are lots of PD's to choose from, and very individualistic and different, precisely because of this fragmentation.

This is so funny. How many industries are there who are happy to share their secrets with their potential competitors?

You are right though, quality can suffer and I'd far rather help decent dommes (dommes that proven they are of a particular calibre by doing it off their own back in the first instance) than encourage women who are looking for an easy income.

Correct Industries dont like training potential competitors , thats why its either independently funded in colleges or there are tying agreements like apprentaships.

Oh and I am always right.;)

And that is all it takes to be a competant professional dominant is it?

If shes completely non-scene what has peaked her intrest in becoming a PD?

That's certainly something I'd be worried about. As I understand it, PD's (certainly the good ones) were in the scene long before going pro. They have the understanding and experience to do what they do. Going from vanilla straight to PD - I really don't think she would know what she's doing. Won't be able to read the subtle signs of reaching limits, won't understand much about the dynamic.
