When someone post a youtube link, do you follow it?
I almost never do. In fact I almost never follow any links, if someone wants to say something why don't they say it, instead of directing us to another site where someone else can say it for them?

No, I don't follow them as a rule. RD xx It is not what you say or do but the way you say or do it

i've done this myself instead of writing a blog. A lot of people can't put into words how they're feeling and will use clips and songs instead. You only live once - but if you work it right, once is enough.

It really depends on a bunch of things.
How patient I'm feeling, how nosy I am at that given moment, whether the title has caught my eye enough, whether I'm in a hurry...and then some! Two roads diverged in a wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. (R. Frost)

Why do you have any good ones? Of course I do, sometimes they're very funny other times they help me to see that the poster is clearly a psychopathic wierdo with an udder fixation... Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

For myself, I usually assume that the original author/artist did it better than the person writing about it. And, if nothing else, I want to separate the original thought from the blogger/poster's thoughts. Some people are parrots, others add a bit of themselves. You don't know which is which unless you follow the links. Edit: youtube, on the other hand, is generally less than intellectually stimulating. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. However there are times, especially when using Microsoft's products, where a word is worth a thousand pictures. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

In that case why do any of us bother to write anything? It's all been said before and no doubt by people much better able to write than most of us on here. Just search out something somewhere else that says it better and post a link to that? It's not going to make for a very full and interesting site. OK so post the lyrics, or the thoughts behind it, as well as the link if you have to have someone else say things for you. I find it annoying when I open a post and find nothing more than a link to somewhere else, with no indication of what it is. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edited 29 Jan 10, 8:17 PM by Rhoobarb

I've posted a few YouTube links, and never because they 'say something better' than I could. Usually because I find them interesting, or amusing at any rate and want to share them with the good folk of IC. Most recently I posted a link to a clip from Chris Morris's new 'jihad comedy' movie, Four Lions. I thought it was quite interesting and I've spoken to a few people on here who are, like me, big Chris Morris fans. So, why not? As for 'I never click on YouTube' links, is it really that big a deal. I'd hate to think that I missed something I might have enjoyed just because I had a carte blanche policy of not clicking on YouTube links. The poon won't come flocking if you sit and do nothing. |
