Just bought my new Mountain bike. (11)

For those who i havent told, i've decided to take up downhill mountain biking (Again). ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3nkzjACUG4&featu... )

I used to do it early in my teens, but quit because 'the fear' set in.

My bike should be coming in the next few days though.

Time to throw myself down the side of a mountain, powered only by gravity and my amazing ability of being unable to comprehend how badly i am going to be hurt.

Shit i'm gonna regret this. If you see me with a broken arm in the next few months, you know why.

Or a broken face, come to think of it.

So what did you get?

Mountain Biking is great fun - I used to race regularly many years ago.

Bought a Kona Kula 2008,

Admittedly its an XC bike, But i'm not looking to get properly into DH until mid/late summer, So will probably go down the route of getting something like a specialized, santa cruz, or kona DH bike if my kula isnt up to the job.

(I wont exactly be starting out on anything with bigger than a 4ft drop, i think the kula is going to handle anything i throw at it for now)

Plus, I had a knee operation a few years ago, so my own body isnt up to full on downhill at the moment, the Kula is to get me up to speed! :-D

What did you used to race paulss? just regular trails?

I am AWESOME!

I have a Specialized Epic bought when they were first launched. I rode Cross Country races, mainly the Gorrick series on the Surrey, Hants border. Also used to do some Trail Trax events and as my map reading and navigating skills were better than my speed I used to do a lot better in these events. Usually came in the top three!

I have done the Black Run in Afan - that's awesome! Have a link to a video of the run somewhere.

Rubbish, chicks dig scars innit. :-D

I am far, far too much of a wuss to contemplate downhilling. Went MTBing once and kept making the fatal mistake of going "ooh, that looks scary, I think I'll use the brakes. Oh, now I'm at the bottom of a hole I can't get out of. Oops." Doh!

I was eyeing up Specialized Stumpjumper for a while, but considering the Kula was like £800 cheaper i think i've done quite well.

Afan forest park? I have cwmcarn on my doorstep and afan is only about 45 mins away. The Black Downhill run at cwmcarn there takes about 4 mins to complete.

I find that to be a bit frightening if i am honest! Think i'll stick with red runs for now

If you find the video of the black run at afan i would love to see it, i've been watching some helmet cams of cwmcarn and its just making me more and more excited!

I am AWESOME!

Yeah thats where you went wrong , dont brake. Ever. You will lose momentum fall over and die.

Plus, if you're going fast enough, you wont be concious for the crash anyway, so it wont hurt!

I am AWESOME!
