Not at all. Looking inwards builds self-knowledge, and that is a very valuable thing that I still engage in. However, from my expereinces it is my belief that spiritual contact with other beings is possible. If I'm right, then certain things are either objectively true or objectively false about them. I consider finding out what the truths and falsehoods are to be worthy of investigation. My lifetime of experiences has left me in no doubt that the God I'm in contact with is the God of the bible, and thus I find Christian theology to be a mine of useful information. However, I always test and question what I'm told and always figure out what and who I am before I investigate where I'm supposed to be - something that I do through prayer rather than secondhand opinions. I'm certainly not dependant on a particular institution to define or accept me - in fact I'm highly non-conformist. However I find church an ideal place to explore and grow in my spiritual life, a fitting act of love toward my God and a vital 'refresh button' - it is surprising how much your spiritual life can wither unnoticed if you don't feed it. In a very real way, growing up Christian has made me more able to stand apart from the 'mainstream' of society - being one means accepting that being different is not inherently bad, and can be a better thing than being normal. | ||

I cam across my spiritual side quite by accident, though I think it was always in me to a degree. I'm not religious and I don't believe in fairies or ghosts but I have always had a close affinity with mother earth. Even as a child my nan used to call me 'the little earth mother!' We decided to spend summer in our tepee and to pitch it in the middle of nowhere and it was during this period that I not only grew a deep intuition with my partner but with everything around me. When you live with the wild things your instincts become more attuned with those of your ancestors. You learn about how powerful your emotions are. You learn about harmony, about heart and mind in unity and most importantly you learn that the value of life is not determined by wealth.
