Women in the workplace do have the right not to have to put up with overfamiliar sexual innuendo from those entrusted to be their managers.

As do men. It does happen the other way about too (although probably much more rare).

I get it all the time, not from managers but one of my jobs involves promoting nightclub events so dealing with tipsy, overfamiliar women and getting my bum groped aren't unusual.
It was only ever a problem if my ex GF happened to be watching. Personally I'm happy to deal with it and love the banter.
Not that I ever take advantage of it, I mean could you imagine telling someone that actually the quickie shag they envisaged wasn't going to happen but if they'd like to come and play with whips and chains.. No, precisely..

all-female work-spaces, like shop floors are an incredibly intimidating place for some men, and yet the 'bullying' and innuendo and harrassement is rarely viewed in the same way. |
There was a time I was installing a computer in an all-female office which involved rummaging around for wires under a desk.
One of the girls quipped with a wry smile and a cheeky glint in her eye "You seem to spend a lot of time down there on your knees". Without giving away too much and to leave her wondering, I replied with an equally cheeky glint in my eye something like "you have no idea".
I think she may have seen me in a slightly different light after that |

Much as I'd hope one of them may take me up on it, I suspect some might avoid me for being "weird" and that would be bad for business, so on balance, probably best to keep it to myself. |

Oh, god, it's in social services. There's a surprise.
I can't stand this culture of females being perceived as so weak and pathetic they have to run tittle-tattling if some big bad nasty man makes a joke at their expense. FFS.
I'm biased, I was only female on a university engineering course, and went into heavy industry in South Yorkshire. If I'd complained every time some bloke made a salacious or insulting crack at me, there wouldn't have been much time to do my job. And there were times that were hard, and certain people who genuinely intimidated me. I toughened up and dealt with it.
I love the way one woman complained about this bloke and then several other worms crawled out from under their rocks with pathetic tales of woe, which from the report seem to amount to 'one liners'. It doesn't come across as systematic persecution of any particular person, which I would wholeheartedly agree is a problem.
Way to ruin someone's career. And probably screw up other parts of his life too.

I agree with you. I am the only female that works my shift, and as you sa , if I complained about every little comment the guys made, no work would ever get done. Turn it into banter and it becomes quite fun! And if someone over steps the mark, deal with it then and there with the person in question, dont try and sell the story! The mans a pillock but she is living up to the stereotype that women are weak and incapable of defending themselves. |

It sounds like this guy has quite a track record of behaving extremely unpleasantly to women in the workplace - employers have a responsibility (both legal and moral) to deal with that. A bit of banter is one thing but people going out of their way to make others' lives difficult in the workplace is quite another. It doesn't look like anyone has "sold their story" but that the guy's actions are being dealt with and as such it is available for news reporting.
I too work in a very male dominated job and if I were to complain about every comment then yes, I'd never get anything done - but there is a line, and if people cross it then it needs to be dealt with. I found it much more difficult when I was younger, both because I was less experienced at dealing with that kind of situation (I have learned through unpleasant experience), and because young women are far more likely to receive unwanted sexual attention, comments etc.

Yes the man should be dealt with, but by going to his superiors, not through the papers. And if it really was a matter of importance to her, why leave it so long before doing anything about it? |
