I'm not getting into the god side of things - but it does show you what nature can do.

All it takes for bad English to prevail is for literate people to do nothing.

Who exactly is this 'you lot' you're referring to?

anyone who has a mind that doesn't limit itself to self

Like, say, a fundamentalist religious fanatic? Just so we're clear on what constitutes an "open mind" in your book...

The vast majority of christians, if not all, dissociate themselves from the right wing fundamentalist words and views of Pat Robertson on Haiti. He's not our spokesperson.

I'm not convinced prayer is a waste of time, though we don't at the moment have a scientific explanation of what mechanisms it might use or what influence it might have. Lots of non-religious people talk of "sending love" or "good vibes". Certainly prayer is no substitute for action; the two belong together. Prayer can also change the person who is praying.

I guess all people of good will, whether religious or not, will want to help others in such a disaster in whatever way they can, perhaps by donating via agencies. This is a very human and humanising response.

It's not nature, it's poverty. You can throw 7.0 scale quakes at San Francisco or Tokyo all day and they'll laugh it off like a summer rain. You drop such a quake on an impoverished country and those crappy buildings will come down fast and hard on any poor sods within them.

If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, you might want to stop waving that axe around.
