I'm not one for praying (and it seems like that doesn't help anyway, given that the countries Archbishop is among the dead) but if I was I'd be asking the Man Upstairs to lay off the people of Haiti for a bit.
Worst earthquake for two centuries, following on from hurricanes last year, thousands, maybe tens of thousands, maybe more, dead.
A quote from their president sums it up pretty starkly:
"Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed."
See if I did believe in God, I'd hate him, because he's either powerful enough to stop this kind of thing happening, or he's not god. If any creature, human or not, could prevent this sort of thing and didn't then they are no friend of mine and they'd fully deserve their only son being nailed to a cross.
Here's hoping that it's not as bad as it looks anyway, and maybe the country can be helped and rebuilt stronger. Have to wonder though if just abandoning the place might be a better option. I mean between hurricanes and earthquakes it seems like trying to settle on the geographical equivalent of a bucking bronco.
Weather reports here says we might get a little bit more snow tonight and maybe tomorrow. And that's pretty much the worst we ever get. It's very easy to forget just how comfortable it is here.

Yes I think everyone who can help out should treat this like the tsunami a few years ago. I have no money but would help with projects if there are any. 'Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather' - Velvet Underground

If God did exist, why would he stop it? From his POV, you could say the world is overcrowded as it is, what it needs is a natural disaster to kill of some people. From the human point of view it's awful and so so horrible, but from "God's" point of view it's only practical. Like a company that just cannot afford to have so many employees, so has to sack people who can barely afford to it eat as it is.

Although if the possibly existent god was the cause of this, it does seem like he's picking on them a bit. Maybe he's just jealous of the Hatian Voodoo gods.

i would rather be on my knees with my eyes closed praying than sitting on my arse and whinging that it's all the fault of a deity i didn't believe in i'm sure the folk of Haiti would appreciate any suggestions anyone has as to what to do exactly how about taking all the heads of the countries out and slapping them for not doing enough in the first place? will that do?

it may provide a bit more practical help to donate money to one of the agencies trying to help them. |
