How many of you have jumped on the Google Android bandwagon?
If you do use droid, why did you go for it, what are your favourite apps/features and what hardware do you use?
From my point of view Android looks like a very powerful platform and is flexible enough that vendors can make a lot of improvements. Personally I think it's going to become a very popular platform in the coming years.

I use it on an HTC Hero. I got it about 2 months before Orange picked up the iphone. I wanted an iphone, but didn't want to wait as it wasn't a sure thing then. But now that I have it, I really like it! the iphone only has shortcuts on the desktop to run apps. But android has apps that can run on the desktop - like the clock, weather, facebook, etc. you just have to flip between screens as opposed to starting an app. I've only paid for 2 apps because I wanted the full versions. MyBackup - which is vital! and Robo Defense, which is a very addictive strategy game. Wikitude looks cool, along with other augmented reality apps, a very cool new set of apps to keep your eye on. Task Manager is the best apps killer I've found. Flashlight gets used a lot, especially as I live in the country and it is dark A LOT. Batterylife is another one on my desktop, very handy. How's that for a start? Pen You say Ouch like it's a bad word.

I just look at it from afar as everyone but me seems to have one and it is cool. I like that you can scan books with it, but we haven't found a way of attaching that to LibraryThing yet... You can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails.

Forgot to say my config:
I use the HTC Hero because I love the Sense UI enhancements. Vanilla ROM replaced with the MoDaCo image as my supplier imported the unit from the far east to no MarketPlace and few locales Apps: 3G Watchdog - Great because I'm on PAYG Android Roulette - Russian Roulette game, I plan to use this at parties (with forfeits for the loser) Barcode Scanner & Shop Saavy - scan an item barcode and search for where it can be found cheaper JogTracker - Started walking now, handy to use GPS to track distances. LOLCats - Need I say more? Meebo IM NewRob - view RSS feeds Skype on 3 - Customised app so I can use the free skype access without eating in to my data allowance Sudoku Free SMS Backup - backs up SMS messages to an "SMS" label in google mail Free Mem - check RAM usage Try again. Fail again. Fail better. - Samuel Beckett Edited 11 Jan 10, 12:27 AM by the_unsub

I'm running a modified G1 here. I've been using smartphones for years and the iphone did a hell of a lot less than the nokias I'd had previously so didn't get one. Android however did do most of what I needed. I am currently running (amongst other things): Aura (lets me track my EvE online character) CoPilot Live (paid for app, turn by turn satnav) Doggcatcher (paid for app, podcast/RSS reader) IRC Radio (speaks an IRC channel out loud) SipAgent (VoIP for cheap international phone calls) Twidgit Lite (twitter on screen widget) My contract still has time to run on it, hopefully the Nexus One will be on contract by the time it expires. Got Android preinstalled on dual boot with my Aspire One. Haven't played with it too much, but it looks like it could make a decent instant-on OS. You know they say it's always the quiet ones you have to watch? That's me.

I've been playing with the HTC HD2 and it's bloody brilliant... the new Sense software is a doodle to use... I hear their bringing a Android version out later this year.
I like the Windows version but not played with any Android devices properly.

Would be great if it does run Android. As I understand it the specs are very similar to the Nexus One Try again. Fail again. Fail better. - Samuel Beckett

Correction - I've had a look at such winmo devices and they don't have the back button (only 4 hard keys, compared to something like the hero having 6). If a ROM was built for it then usage would be difficult. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. - Samuel Beckett

Got a G1 personal phone - it has run CyanogenMod at one point but was too unreliable (alarm didn't work etc) so back to the standard ROM now - not that many applications on it, as I really don't use it enough - about the most useful app I had when it was rooted was Wifi Tether

Ah, someone who might know the answer.. In an ideal world I'd have an HTC, as long as I could use my O2 contract and run Co-pilot 7 on it (had v 6 too and Europe, so kind of used to it) ...anyone know if this combination is possible? I was really impressed by the google map thingy (technical term) showing us moving along in the train..and the ability to overlay tube maps etc is really useful.. and anything that gets us off windoze..please..
