Is it only me who still thinks that internet dating is a bit... well... sad?

probably :-). but when you've had as much luck as i've had, it can't hurt to try explore different options.

I'd say get out there more really, i met my first serious boyfriend on yahoo dating, now match.com. i never paid for it. I don't see the point in paying for those sites....

I agree. Also, when you live in a relatively remote area and most of your friends are workmates or know your workmates and are much younger or married then it becomes a way of meeting people that you wouldn't otherwise have any contact with. It also means you don't spend ages chatting up someone when you are out only to discover a few dates down the line that his idea of a good weekend involves an X-box and a lie in whereas yours involves skiing, hiking and hitting him with stuff!

I'm on a few nilla dating sites and they make ic look so pleasantly tame in terms of how on ic, I don't get *that* much junk but on the nilla sites I get bombarded with "hi how r u would u lyk 2 chat?" type shite...I mean, there's nothing I can say in response to a memo like that because they've not really made a point for me to follow up on (I would never want to date anyone who's got nowt to say)

ETA: I've just checked the sites I'm on and I've been greeted with 2 winks, 2 "Hi how are you?" type messages and one that said something to the effect of "Hi there, I'm not very good at talking to girls but I think you're pretty and it would be really nice if you wrote back even if you're not interested"

Jeeeez! why the blummin heck do I attract all the weedy, insecure men?!

Another pet hate about dating sites is that if I don't memo someone within 48 hours or whatever, I get a memo saying "I guess you found someone else then?"

Is this normal? am I doing something drastically wrong?!

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice :)xx

Don't discount nilla sites, I've put rather blatent profiles on nilla places like plentyoffish and okcupid

Plentyoffish is rather nice when you are a women, I met a few nice chaps there although only met one in person from there who did turn out to be a bit of a Dom ( I was told more recently :) ).

Yes, but when options are limited it's not useful to get snobbish about where one looks :-(

I'm curious to know with people using vanilla dating sites, do they make it obvious about their kink? and if so do you still upload pictures of urself? I'm happy putting up pictures, but not in the same place that I mention kink stuff. FH
