Just a quick survey
Who still uses film on occasion or are you completely wedded to digital? I still have two film cameras but very rarely use them these days even though they were great to use in the past. I keep meaning to get out for a 'retro' shoot some day

I was thinking just the other day that it is unlikely that I shall use film again unless I'm looking for a project to fill some time when I'm retired. I thought that, since it is so long that I even took a look at it, I ought to clear out the films from my fridge. 13 rolls of 120 and 6 rolls of 35mm - and there was nothing newer than a use-by date of 2003.

I still have my old Bronica ETRS-i hanging around ... not used it for ages ... and I have a russian folding 120 cam,era as well. Whether I'll ever use them again is a good question, I've now invested in a 14.8 Megapixel SLR which is, to be honest, pretty damn good. Toak FEMALE, BONDAGE-FRIENDLY MODEL SOUGHT. I am seeking to update my "How To" shibari bondage pictures (see my profile pics, the clothed blonde tied in red and black) with a model more "enthusiastic" about BDSM, and who is happy to be photographed nude. Not for ages, but i'd like to, would love to get a decent negitives scanner, and do some shots in film develope the negitives then scan them straight in. Saying that the chances of me actually getting my arse into gear and doing that are prob slim since i love my digital camera. Chances are end up spending spare cash on more stuff for my digital camera like a new lens.

I bought 2 OM2's a few months ago with about 6 lenses, tripod, camera bag, flash and bits n bobs for not too much at all off ebay.
Tested them both and they seem to work fine, so when it warms up a bit I will do some "serious" photography with them

I have film cameras, but have never actually learnt to shoot with film, and after being taught how to develop just really can't be bothered! Digital is just so much better, there are few things that can't be replicated. We all scan them into the computer anyway to show people, so what's the point? To get a medium format film scan to the same quality as my camera would cost me about £50-£60 for a SINGLE shot.

This might be naive - I won't pretend to be a photographer - but have made a couple of observations about the photographers use of technology in sports. Digital seems to easily support someone blatting away from all angles taking any old image. Film seemed to require far better placement of the camera, and a better read of the situation. Plainly from business and practical perspective digital has to win - the only real downside of digital is the 'white noise' of dozens of crap meaningless shots can really hide the few golden ones. Am wondering if the real skill in photography now lands firmly in the lap of the photo editor. By the way - I do wonder about the many images just before and after iconic ones that would have been captured by digi - but then would they have fuzzed the edges and lessened the impact on the originals? The camera does now in fact lie!

A friend once said that he takes a lot more photos with digital than he did with film but in his opinion he only roughly got the same number of good ones as he did with film. 'Kiss the boot of shiny, shiny leather' - Velvet Underground

I have a really good neg scanner. Lent it out to my mates, so we could all digitise our work and wave it about on the web, but alas and alac, one of those mates unfortunately fooked up and lost the neg tray, so the whole thing is useless, buggrit. Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you?

Film all the way :oD If any of this is black and white and you haven't chucked it yet, please send it my way! Colour stuff goes off badly, but out of date b/w can be really interesting to work with! Edited for typos. Edited 3 Jan 10, 10:32 PM by Liquid_Silver |
