I spent the afternoon burning old bits of wood in my basement fireplace. I couldn't think of an appropriate way of starting my first blog on IC. Now I smell of burnt garden furniture and hedge cuttings (because of the fire, not the blog). It was more fun than it sounds; though I freely admit that it does also sound fun.
My friends are always telling me that I'll burn the house down, but that'll only happen if I'm unlucky. I was slightly unlucky this afternoon. I put an old birdfeed holder full of rotten seeds and nuts on the fire. About 30 minutes later, once the hardened block of feed had reached optimum temperature - it exploded, showering me and all of the dry firewood piled up around the cellar, with white hot nut bullets. I thought a grenade had gone off. Fortunately, only three of the six hundred white-hot projectiles hit me in the face, leaving just five hundred and ninety seven more for me to find and extinguish. Luckily I still had one good eye and found that repeatedly screaming the Lord's name in vain helped me to complete the task. I later passed out facedown in a bowl of Vaseline.
Happy days.
