I saw it and it was really rather good. So there.

Bit disappointed as I had hoped to despise it as I despise most things that are massively hyped, but it's basically Aliens for the 21st Century so I had to love it.

Since I'm feeling in the mood to invent Oscars, because the real ones are pap, here's what it wins.

The Best Robot Fight Ever Award™ No spoilers on the specifics but seriously. Epic.

The Ridonkulous But Awesome Award™ for featuring a massive aerial dogfight between futuristic helicopter gunships and crazies riding dragons.

The Mis-Statement Of Threat Award™ for the Marine commander warning his men that the Na'avi use poison-tipped arrows for their bows. Making no mention of the fact said arrows are about the size of a pool cue in the first place.

The Mr Stabby Award For Best Knifing Ever™ not spoiling this one but it sets the bar for knife carnage pretty fucking high.

The George Lucas Is A Talentless Fuck Award™ for proving that you can make a movie with just as many special effects and green screen scenes as one of the Star Wars prequels, but it doesn't have to be shit.

Basically it's dead snazzy. So there.

If you think about it its more like Dances with wolves than Aliens Plotwise but has the plus of no Kevin Costner.

I have heard it described as 'Fern Gully with guns'.

:-D

One of God's own prototypes, a high powered mutant of some kind, never considered for mass production. Too weird to live, too rare to die.

Ahh, so your cinema got the same print as me then. :D

If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you, you might want to stop waving that axe around.

Dances with Wolves, Lawrence of Arabia, Dune, The Last Samurai and so on. It's a pretty classic storyline that comes up every couple of years or so.

But at the end of the day they don't have dudes in tooled up versions of the Aliens power-loader fighting alien tribal nutters in a wickedawesome jungle.

I promised that I'd take the kids to see this. I hope it's half as good as it's publicity.

The publicity preveiws imo were crap by comparison, honestly 5 minutes of Avatar totally destroys the whole of 2012 cgiwise, and I only saw it in 2D.

its a 12 but i reckon kids will love it, especially the dragons.

It's really not as clever as it seems like it would be to just say '(other name of rainforest based film) with guns'. I mean I don't want to sound condescending, but a six year old could probably figure that much out. :)
