Greetings, violet wands are quite easy to use for temporary branding. Effects last between a day and three weeks generally (according to tool, power, times over the design and skin type). Repeated application or high power can result in a permanent scar being formed, so some caution is required in respect of a 'first brand' before the degree of skin reaction becomes fully apparent. Best to step lightly and 'top up' in the first instance. Please don't just slap a cautery/fulgration electrode into a wand and 'go for it'. These electrodes are designed for burning off warts and the spark jumps about all over the place, so that any finished result will be really crude. It's best to first trace the design onto the skin and get it approved by the recipient. Then set the wand into a secondary contact mode, using a method that is going to suit both recipient and artist. We use a gapped contact lead for this purpose, but a saturation electrode will suffice. The electrode with a spring in it in this ebay item is a saturation, secondary contact current is shown demonstrated in the images (please enlarge them using the ebay button for such purpose): http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&... Please do not use a simple metal bar (in a lot of classic sets) for a secondary electrode, as there are certain safety considerations to be taken into account. The recipient is best seated/reposed for branding work, that the artist may trace over the design with their arm supported at the elbow by a non conductive surface (often a table), and thus preclude possible design shakes. The design is 'etched' on from about 1mm above the surface of the skin (making it a precisely controlled spark). It's best to use a very fine pointed metal implement for this work, we very often use dental picks, but a panel pin, needle or compass point will work just as well. As long as it is a fine point, the design will be precise, and can always be 'topped up' easily after the initial brand if required. We used to brand people on a regular basis at fetish fairs, events and munches, but since the law changed to include any 'substantive injury' we now do far less of it. If you happen perchance to be passing the LFF, Norwich Munch or the LAM...there is often a dodgy blonde by the name of Star (aka LadyDarkflame @ aol.com) with a stall of wands, who will be more than happy to demonstrate/provide advice on such procedure. She has very steady hands 'under power', in fact it's her hands shown in the Ebay images above. It might also be worth having a copy of the design you fancy about your person, strange things have been known to happen. Hope this is of some assistance, best regards, Lord DF

I hope neither yourself or the OP mind me asking this question as it's not specific to branding with a VW but might be relevant as I am interested in branding Ollie at some point (probably cell popping though). But what I wanted to ask was abotu the secondary contact metal bar. That's what we use with the VW and I find sometimes that it's actually more effective on me (as the user) than it is on Ollie (the reciever). Is this usual when using the bar. I've also found on a couple of occassions that I have a bit of a headache whilst and jsut after using it. Is this to do with how the bar works and would the thing you've suggested above be any better for general use or is that just for use when branding? Thanks

A word of warning regarding Henna; if you dye your hair on a regular basis or even if you decide you want to in the future, ensure you do the 48 hour skin test as Henna is one of the products that can cause you to be allergic to the hair dye.

Well, just because a marking isn't permanent doesn't mean it has to be taken trivially like something that can, say, be easily washed off or otherwise removed. So long as a marking is of a kind that will remain indellibly for at least some significant time, it can be renewed periodically so as to be "permanent" for as long as its meaning applies. The "renewal" can even become a regular ritual - a periodic reconnection to D/s values to help maintain depth to the dynamic. Permanent marking should bear in mind that whatever is the worst that can happen in future CAN happen, and might. There have been just one or two significant women in my past prior to my mistress in memory of whom I would have been perfectly happy to bear some permanent mark - so long as it was something discreet and of only personal significance. But I would consider it a very grave insult to my mistress, and something I would despise probably even more than her, for her to see someone else's name on any part of me (especially accompanied by "property of...", or "I love......") now that my life and future are HER exclusive property. I AM THE GOD OF HELL-FIRE!.....but its my lunch break right now
