A few months ago I watched a programme on TV about a fantastic British still-life artist. His paintings are incredible because his skills with creating light and shadow meant his pictures had a very 3D quality. A knife on table next to an apple would pop out at you. He said his greatest compliment was from a five year old boy who asked "But how did the knife get in the picture?"
As far as I remember he includes, and is particularly known for, a lot of stainless steel and other reflective surfaces in his paintings. Even through the medium of a non-HD telly his talent was astonishing.
He is a contemporary artist so yes, he's still alive, and he was described as the leading British still life artist.
But can I find him on the net! I've googled on and off for weeks and I can't get any closer to finding him. His first name is something like Graham or David but his surname is not a typical surname, it's a verb or a pronoun.
Oh, and one of his paintings is called 'Granny and the McIntoshes'. It is a painting of a granny smith apple next to two Mcintosh apples. I can't find that on Google either.
Does anyone have any idea who I am talking about? Pleeeeeese. I'd love to try and purchase some prints.

Nah, he is figurative, and far too young. My guy is in his 50s I think and only does still life. Haven't a clue. I can't remember I can't even remember if it was daytime or evening TV. I think it was Daytime.

Nope, he is white with a very English name, something like Graham Leaf (but it isn't this obviously) "If no sexual offence is being committed it seems very odd indeed that there should be an offence for having an image of something which was not an offence," Lord Wallace of Tankerness | ||

My first thought was Dan Hays who has done some very striking 3d style hamster cage artwork that I remember seeing at Tate Liverpool or it could have been the Lady Lever art gallery.
