Recently at work, I complemented a female colleague on her perfume and asked what it was, which she told me and I also complimented her on her hair. I have since mentioned this to another female colleague and she said she has heard that two thirds of men have female minds. Have you heard this? I hadn't heard it before. Plus, a question for you ladies..... If a man, perhps a friend or a face you know from seeing in your daily routine, but not know as a friend, compliments you on make-up or your clothes and asks where you cot them from, would you simply be flattered, or would you wonder if he is a crossdresser?

It all depends on what you call a female brain. There are mental tasks at which there is a noticeable gender bias: spatial awareness, synonym remembrance and aural differentiation. Men are better at the first one and women the others. Women who do male jobs tend to get male scores on these tests and vice versa. There is a BBC test where you can find out which gender you may be mentally. The figure about two thirds of men having female brains is utter shit. Of two thirds of men had female brains there wouldn't be any difference between the two gender's brains. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

Complimenting me on some detail just makes me think the guy pays attention to detail, which I appreciate.
Depending on the guy, I might go on to wonder if he was a crossdresser, but that would be from a whole different set of indicators and nothing to do with the fact he paid a compliment

It's much more complicated than that.Women have a tendency towards creative and artistic things, men towards maths, sciences and mechanichal things etc.But it's only a tendency and of course there is a lot of crossoiver in either direction. There is a correlation with sexuality and that is why many gay men have creative, artistic jobs and a larger than expected proportion of female truckers would be lesbian but it's not a certainty, they may just like cutting hair or driving a juggernaut.

Not a number I have come across before as if such a statistic existed from a credible source I am sure I would have come across it. While there may be an appreciable number of men with female minds, two thirds is exaggerating a bit. One third might even be a bit on the high side. What the lady probably read is that up to two thirds of men have some female characteristics to a greater or lesser degree. Very few people are wholly female or wholly male as females do produce some testosterone and males do produce some estrogen, some more than others.

The greatest problem with this is that almost without exception the "science" it's based on is utter rubbish. Invariably the amount of error in the system/test out weighs any difference seen. Strangely enough there was an excellent article about it in The Economist (of all places). "Differences between the sexes" http://www.economist.com/science/displaystory.cf... Worth logging in to read though and well referenced. --- Ha! |
