Free lecture at lunchtime (1.15pm-1.55pm) on Tuesday 8 December at University College London, in the Darwin Lecture Theatre. "Professor Stephen Guest (UCL Laws) This lecture discusses how genuine freedom must include all manner of thought, including the irrational, the bad, and the obscene, and how the recent new offence of possessing extreme pornography has breached this principle." General details on the lectures series here. Is anyone else going to this? It'll be interesting to see what a professor of Law at one of the UK's leading universities has to say on the extreme porn laws and how they affect our rights to free speech and free thought. The lecture will up to watch online for free for a week afterwards as well, if you can't make it. It's good to know that people are still looking at this, considering the impact it can have even beyond BDSM, and thinking of the effect that stifling even a minority interest can have on the majority.

Shame, with a little more notice I could have made this lecture. I might even try and shuffle my diary around to see if I still can. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing it online. Anyone planning to go? Thanks for drawing my attention to these lectures. A couple of them look interesting on a more general business footing too. I don't know what's right and what's real any more

I'd love to see this! I had hoped to go but it looks like I may not be able to manage it I did contact the UCL IT department to find out why the lectures weren't downloadable and was told that they are up on the UCL site for an indeterminate time but much longer than a week. They're also available on the UCL Itunes service here http://itunes.ucl.ac.uk/
Places at the lecture are limited also and I'd hate to trog in only to end up shut out because it's already full Wayne Politicians are like nappies

Looks like unemployment does have some benefits... when I go to these, I can always get there at 1pm or earlier and make sure I've actually got a seat in the lecture theatre.
