Disabled people review new series Cast Offs for today's newspaper The Independent in this piece by Jerome Taylor.
Photos of the reviewers on page two of the images. Sadly my "I shot Pudsey Bear" tshirt didn't make it into the photos by the looks of it, but my jacket on which I've sewn on the back a patch made from a DAN tshirt which reads "DAN - FREEDOM NOW" so at least a little advert for DAN in there. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/... The first show airs tonight at 11 pm on Channel 4 and is a comedy drama about a reality TV show in which 6 disabled people are stranded on a desert island to see if they can live for three months unassisted. The cast are, Tim Gebbels, Sophie Woolley, Victoria Wright, Mat Fraser, Kiruna Stamwell and Peter Mitchell and I think it was written by disabled writers. I thought it was edgy and brilliant but the review copy had no subtitles and audio description so I'll be interested to hear what others think of the show and whether the captions and descriptions make it more accessible. I know a few of the actors so I have high hopes for this show.
Love to know what other crips here think of it. looks like it's gonna get a bit sexy too..
De Enjoy!

I missed the opportunity to go to the review screening and I'm so shattered after two very long days on a training course, coupled with lack of sleep and 5.30am starts that I'm bound to be asleep tonight when it screens. I'll try to watch it on 4OD later in the week, or More4 if they repeat it on there. No spoilers please! Aut disce aut discede. Manet sors tertia caedi |

I've a brain like a sieve, and got sidetracked by some foreign bugs on itv1 Think of the fierce energy concentrated in an acorn! You bury it in the ground, and it explodes into a giant oak! Bury a sheep, and nothing happens but decay!" —George Bernard Shaw |

Well I saw it, and I liked it. Not sure if it will have mainstream appeal in the same way as Skins or Queer as Folk, but it's very well scripted and well acted. I'll definitely watch the next episode. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking up at the stars" |

Episode 2 was really good. I think the shock/surprise of the show took a little getting used to in episode 1. The fact that each episode focuses on a character's 'real' life as well as the development of their lives as castaways makes it compelling. The one noticeable difference from the few 'reality' shows I've seem is the absence of the bitching and playing up - which I see as pretty true to life. When getting on with life is harder than for most people, crips don't bother with the histrionics. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking up at the stars" |

I watched what I think is the second episode last night with my partner. I personall take a pretty comical view to my disablity and I encourage my Partner to do this. Obviously I only take this view with myself. We really enjoyed it and loved the comedy. We could just picture abled bodied people covering their faces in embarrassment as they feel bad for laughing. |
