I had heard about SWAMP, of course, but had never been. It's a bit of as long way for me. Yes I know Bristol's only down the M4, but still. I live on the edge of the capital, with two markets of its own. Why travel to Bristol for more of the same?
Well, I'll tell you why. I had an ulterior motive for going, so this is not entirely objective, but I have to say I was impressed. Not just with how well-organised it is, nor with the venue. I have to say that its 'normal' incarnation as a lap-dancing club gave me some reservations , but these were quickly dispelled by the warm and friendly welcome and the warmer and friendlier people - even the poor sods manning the door, freezing their nuts or nipples off, as appropriate.
The market is lovely - smaller than the London ones of course, but then this isn't London - with enough to satisfy most perversions. The private dungeon is generously spacious, with the constant attendance of a DM, to see fair safe and consensual play.
When the market closed, the party began. Not unlike any other play club, it was full of like-minded people, out to express themselves in a safe environment. The market cleared away, the space becomes the public dungeon where the players and the newbies or the simply curious mixed freely.
It all seemed to end too soon, but it was obvious from the looks on the faces of those filing out that a good time was had by all. It was clear that the General Manager loves SWAMP - he came in on his day off - and what's not to love? Sure, the venue isn't as disabled-friendly as might be ideal, but then few venues are. But it is all outweighed by the experience.
A big thumbs-up to the crew and attendees of SWAMP.
